Oasis, The Killers to record new version of 'Sgt Pepper'
The Beatles classic gets a 40th anniversary makeover
    4 hours ago
Oasis, The Killers and Kaiser Chiefs are to cover songs from The Beatles' 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' to mark the 40th anniversary of the classic album's release.

The original album was released on June 1, 1967 and to mark the event the big names will all be covering tracks from the record for a BBC2 special to be aired on June 2.

Razorlight, James Morrison, The Fratellis and Travis are among the other acts taking part.

The BBC reports that Geoff Emerick, the engineer in charge of the original sessions will use the same equipment to record the new versions.

Radio 2 controller Lesley Douglas said: "This will be not only a unique radio event, but a very special musical moment.

"The range and quality of artists involved ensure that this will be a fitting tribute to one of the great albums of all time."

There is no news yet on which track the artists concerned will cover.

    Lol.

It's a good thing I ****ing love The Beatles, because it doesn't look like their ever going to stop milking that cash-cow.

I'll reserve judgement on this until I hear it anyway. I had strong reservations about 'Love' before that was released, and it's now easily the first album I reach for when I'm in the Bealtes mood.

    I don't know about that.

His lazy apathetic sounding vocals don't really lend themselves to the material imo.

Love was the Beatles, remixed by the Martins, this doesn't warrant judgement to be reserved

    Oasis
    The Killers
    Kaiser Chiefs
    Razorlight
    James Morrison
    The Fratellis
    Travis

    **** that ****ing bull****
****ing awful imo that they would even attempt to cover that album, leave it alone.
all they're missing is Snow Patrol and the Kooks for the most irritating line up in the world....ever!

This has already been done with Revolver and Rubber Soul so the idea of covering a Beatles album in its entirety by a shower of singers with nothing better to do over the holidays is nothing new. As long as it sounds better than the collective cover of Carol King's Tapestry album I don't really care. Might even be good.

I feel sick, this can't happen. What is wrong with these 'artists' that think they can put some kind of interesting slant on already interesting music. Really annoys me.

    This looks like absolute ****e.

Like someone decided to choose the most derivative ****e they could find in the CD section of Tesco and get them to cover Beatles songs.

Could've been good. I'm sure there are fantastic bands and artists around who would have loved to do this.

Joanna Newsom on Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds... Polyphonic Spree on Sgt Pepper's?

Mediocracy and moneymaking have merged to create this soup of horrors, I will be plugging my ears in the meantime and hoping that Girls Aloud or somesuch won't jump on this bandwagon whilst it's still hot.

I'm not the biggest beatles fan but this is not good for music. Surely they could be a bit more imaginative with their choice of artists.

I suppose razorlight doing this will give johnny borell a chance to climb further up his own ass.
