Bill O'Reilly........what can I say. My opinion, he's a bully who has got too big for his show. However, he is passionate about what he talk about....as you can see here about 1min into the video.

Haha. I actually saw this last night. He had an interview with two other fox correspondants later on about Rosie O'Donnell and all he really did was bitch about the bloke he's interviewing in that clip. Some spanner...

There was a good 60 minutes on O'Reilly a few weeks back. He did'nt come across as a very humble individual atall, not that it's necessarily a bad thing. Everyone knows he's a pretty big egoist.

The thing that gets me however is that even though I don't agree with some of his views I could still sit down and watch the show.

However the majority of Left Wing people I meet in the US or to coin Fox's spin on the phrase "liberals" get into such a Hysteria at the mere mention of his name, or Sean Hannity or Anne Coulter. I find that even more irrational than the views of these pundits sometimes.

I can only watch the o'reilly factor in five-ten minute intervals.. any more than that and I start to get very annoyed with him.. I try to catch about a half hour most nights... classic stuff. I've never actually seen another interviewer on a show put the people he's talking to sitting on a lower level than themselves... the man has a god complex and I love him for it.

The lies and contradictions that these people come out without would send any right minded individual anyone into a hysteria

    Extract from 60 Minutes Interview
Some folks would expect this reception for O'Reilly, a favorite of conservatives. But what you don't expect are his views, which sound more like they're coming from a Democrat.

O’Reilly says he’s pro gun control, against the death penalty, and supports civil unions, not just for homosexuals, but "for everybody."

He says he's for gay adoptions, as a last resort: "I'd rather have nice, responsible gay home than the system for kids. What else?"

And about the environment? "Government’s gotta be proactive on environment," says O'Reilly. "Global warming is here. All these idiots that run around and say it isn't here. That's ridiculous."

At least some of these are reasonable views that are shared by most reasonable individuals. Those who appose gun control, well it is written into the US constitution and is just a fact of life here however strange it is to an Irish person.

Try and be a bit more succinct. Referring to "these people" makes me think you're referring to a band of Right Wing Conspirators versus free thinking, independent liberals which simply isn't the case. In fact it's quite a naive view of the world. I stand to be corrected if I misinterpreted you.

The thread's about Bill O'Reilly specifically and Fox in general here.

Self righteous liberals are just as annoying as those on the far right, each blur the issues and constantly preach from their soapbox. I actually think O'Reilly isn't as bad as he is made out to be. He is definitely rude to some of those that ihe interviews, and at times obnoxious, but, If you actually listen to what he has to say, you'll find that he isn't the bush lover that the far left paint him out to be.

Don't get me wrong, im not O'Reilly's biggest fan but, people who immediately paint him as a pro bush neo-con, who have probably never sat down and watched his show for a full hour, are just as obnoxious as O'Reilly is when he starts bullying those he interviews.

If you want to see what a common political ground should look like, watch South Park, there are some very valid points made in that program.

I enjoy watching him but sometimes he grates on me what i like is he's not afraid to speak his mind and care little about what other people think of his views. There aren't many newscasters like him around now

The interview he did with Jeremy Glick was sickening, and the spin he put on it for months afterwards was a disgrace. 'Outfoxed' a documentry on Fox News is worth buying on DVD

He's a fool. And he's known to get his facts wrong on occasion as well. He keeps going on about how he's Irish (i.e. his great grandfather was or whatever)... it's not like we want to claim him as one of our own!

I posted in News & Media a few months ago about Keith Olbermann, whose show airs on MSNBC opposite Billo. I can't find the exact post, but I have noted the examples of his criticism of Fox News which I mentioned:

Bill O Reilly interviews US Colonel Ann Wright (retired after almost 3 decades), and finishes the interview by calling for her mic to be cut, and when that's done he carries on talking and chastising her :)

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=MsuooIpnArQ

"Bill I served 29 years, how many did you serve?"
(it's about at this point that he cuts her off :))

Bottom line, Bill O Reilly is a c*nt. At least he's on public television while he's making a show of himself.

    Great clip.

it's one of the few occasions when I've watched a fight on American TV and wanted the hispanic to beat the ****e out of the Irish guy.

That clip is bizarre. They were going at it hammer and thongs and then... BAM! They just start shooting the breeze with each other. Strange.
It just seemed to be at best, arguing for the sake of it and at worse, a cynical attempt to create controversy.

Don't actually know too much about Bill O'Reilly but from that clip he seems like a clown.

watching the o reilly factor is my biggest guilty pleasure , i disagree with every single thing he says but i still enjoy watching him , its car crash vulgar tv of the highest form
o reilly is the flagship of fox news which as anyone with half a brain can see with minutes is nothing short of a propoganda machine for the republican party
every story which is refllects negativeley upon the bush admin is glossed over , excuses as no different to what the democrats did 30 yrs ago or simply no reported , they rarely devote any time to the dozens of american soldiers who are killed in iraq every week now , they much rather giving wall to wall coverage of something zany comedian rosie o donell said

on the subject of rosie o donell , fox has its boegey men and women who they hype as being a huge threat to the usa with thier apparrent unpatriotic comments about the beloved bush admin , sean penn , the afforementioned rosie , george clooney and of course the dixie chicks , are all the subject of a witch hunt on a regular basis for thier crimes of criticising the great bush

the democratic party on the other hand do not even need to be guilty of having done anything , fox exxagerate or even make up stuff that democratic members may have said , thier current target is speaker nancy pelosi who when having recently visited syrian and met thier leader was branded a traitor and accused of siding with the enemys of the usa , since when has syria been an enemy of the usa, oh yeah i forgot , they are on poor terms with israel which on fox means their on poor terms with the usa

fox news owner , rupert murdoch , who else claimed at the time that fox news was being launched to counter balance the liberal news media
in reality i belive it was created to rally the republican vote and thus keeping the party most likely to keep taxes for the super rich like murdoch in power
anyone that knows anything about murdoch knows that both him and his media outlets have always backed the party who were big on tax cuts etc

that fox news has so many fans in the usa is truly frightening , having millions that ignorant with a dangerous weapon , that weapon being the ability to vote republican

Bill on the argument between himself and Geraldo:
"Everyone in the world has seen that clip"

How big is his ego? There's your answer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 388 ✭✭Milktrolley

How can you have a moron like Bill O'Reilly on a programme and not at least attempt to give a tough interview? Bill s***ed on about how the UN were rubbish in Darfur, Pat didn't think to mention that it's not like the US are doing all that well in Iraq. Instead, all we get is a 15 minute spin zone segment where Billo has free reign, and crap at the end about how Bill's "Irish". And then, of course, he can be seen walking off the set in the background a few shots later.

He would have got a tougher interview on Tubridy.

    What's your point there?

Very entertaining as always, he was squirming a bit at the start but pat kenny backed off.

    What's your point there?

I'm not blaming Bill for walking off the set, obviously he had to, but it shouldn't have been seen. I tend to nitpick TV at times and I was on a rant...

The repeat is on Monday night at 11:40.

Bill s***ed on about how the UN were rubbish in Darfur, Pat didn't think to mention that it's not like the US are doing all that well in Iraq.

Well in fairness I think he was just suggesting the UN are completely inactive, whereas the US at least try to do something to help people, although he admitted that Bush ****ed it up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 388 ✭✭Milktrolley

There's a truth in that, some debate as well, but at the very least Pat could have made the point to him and at least attempt to challenge what O'Reilly was saying. There were numerous other examples that I could pick out if I watch the tape again. It's an opportunity lost as far as I'm concerned.

If I read a post from News & Media correctly, the Factor came from Dublin last night, tonight's is on at 1am on Sky 510 to whom it concerns.

God that guy talks out of his arse. Saw the late late interview. Talked about how great america were, being the only enforcer of justice in the world. Said that the western european countries are secular and dont care about where the world is heading. Its all a load of sensationalist rubbish, no substance to his points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭beanyb

Yeah, I think Pat just about plucked up the courage to say "ah, hold on there now" before continuing to lick O'Reilly's ass.

I enjoy O'Reilly. He's a ****-stirrer and the complete opposite of dry ****es on telly like Kenny himself. The more O'Reilly's there are on telly, the better.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 388 ✭✭Milktrolley

Yeah, I think Pat just about plucked up the courage to say "ah, hold on there now" before continuing to lick O'Reilly's ass.

That was when Orally suggested that "most Irish children don't know when Christmas or Easter are on", citing an article from page 16 of "The Independent" (he didn't say whether it was ours or the UK version). Pat took him up on the point, rightly saying it was ridiculous, but Billo stood his ground and cited the article and, I think, suggesting Pat check it out.

He'd be funny if he wasn't so respected and taken seriously by so many people.

o reilly is only respected by pig ignorant ill educated red neck right wing bible bashers in the usa who to show thier loyalty buy his crappy merchandise like NO SPIN mugs and doormats
only in america could a guy like o reilly or a station like fox news gain respect
someone once said the best and worst of this worlds people live in the usa
when you see the following o reilly and fox news have there , i think thee only conclusion one can come to is that , that is true

The fact that it's been picked up on just makes me wish all the more that the interview was in any way probing. Pat did get nervous during the interview... sure enough though, Bill blew it all out of proportion, as exposed by Olbermann. If "the man" (i.e. Pat) did what Letterman did and told him that he talked crap, the thing would have been played in full and Pat would have moved up a few notches... or at least been referred to by name
