I wish to make a back up disk of all the information that is on my computer. I have a DVD burner . Could i burn all the information onto the DVD?

I want to make the disc in case my computer is stolen or in the event of a virus.

What software do i need and how would i do it ? Also is it possible to password protect the back up disc for security ?

    You can backup files & folders...or 'ghost'(clone it) the disc : http://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities/backupandimage.shtml

I dunno if there's password protection with these (free) packages. It may be worth investing in Norton Ghost or similar.

There are free disc burning software mentioned in the Freebies sticky at the top of the thread listings, find one of those that you like and use it.

Unless you keep all the files in a password protected archive of some kind, you won't be able to protect the disc.

What exactly do you want to back up? DVDs will only take around 4GB of data.

    Thanks for the replies.
I want to back up all folders in my hard drive and all folders in my documents.

Is there a new device for making these disks in Windows Vista ?

Also, would this back up disk work as a boot copy disk. ie in case all of my computer crashes.
