I am trying to boot my PC. It runs on Windows XP Home. During the boot a message comes on screen from Norton Go-Back stating that the machine crashed when Norton Go-Back was attempting to repair a fault on the Disk and do I wish to continue with Norton Go-Back. I cannot select either Yes or NO and nothing is happening.

any idea what the error was that resulted in norton-go-back running? have you tried booting in safe mode? If you cannot select either Yes or NO and nothing is happening, the only thing I can think of is going to Safe Mode and uninstalling norton..or doing a registry restore.

I had no idea it was even doing a recovery when the machine was last shut down. I cannot get it to boot in safe mode. I tried pressing F8 when the boot started. I also changed the boot sequence to CD-rom first but as soon as it gets the command to boot from CD the Norton screen appears and won't take either yes or no for an answer. Thanks for your help.

Its a Norton problem not a spyware problem. Norton Go Back is after failing, so you will have to stick the hard drive in another pc as a slave, back up your data, return hard drive and do a fresh install.

I discovered one source of my troubles. My keyboard and mouse are connected to USB ports. They cannot be used for input until Windows starts. I put an old keyboard and mouse into the normal ports and was able to have input. I got a recovery cd from Norton and booted removing GO back in Dos. Windows is now up and running but there are a number of problems with files on the machine such as the internet connection drivers are missing and some Word documents refuse to open.
