Feels like an age since I posted anything here !

Anyways ... I'm interested in peoples experiences with ink for photo printing ... I tend to buy the overpriced Canon branded stuff for my iP8500 ... under the illusion that it will give me far superior quality in the results ... but as with everything Canon ... it is a complete rip off!

I'd be interested to hear the experience of the rest of you ... so a poll and two questions -

Do you think the cheapo yellow pack stuff is any good when compared to the branded stuff ?

Where do you buy your inks ?

What ink to you use for Photo printing ? 5 votes

    Branded & overpriced
I find the cheap stuff just as good. Everyone knows that the printer manufacturers make most of their money from their grossly overpriced, tiny capacity ink cartridges. This is why the newer printers (such as my Canon ip5200) won't accept any cartridge that does not have an encrypted chip on it to tell it when it is empty, so the third party ink manufacturers can't make a cartridge to work with it. What I have to do is transplant the chip from old catridges to their replacements. This means the printer can't tell how much ink is left but it works fine.

I remember reading somewhere that to fill a car's petrol tank with OEM printer ink would cost you over US$ 100,000!

I use branded Epson stuff. I use my inkjets to sell pictures so I dont use yellow pack stuff. If I was using it for just regular printing then yeah yellow pack all the way

Epson ink in the 1270, tried the cheap 3rd party stuff but went back to OEM.

The 3rd party ink was clogging the head continuously.

I'd love to try Lyson's ink though.

I'd say continuous ink, alá Lyson would be the only boy if you were serious at all.

Looks as if we are a conservative lot ... either that or materialist slaves to the big marketing machines ...

Has anyone tried continuous ink ?
Does it save money long term ?

It's honestly the same difference between the inks. I could tell you exactly how much profit there is on an average ink cartridge, but I'm worried that I'd give someone a heart attack.
