    Hey,

I Currently have a geforce fx5200 agp in my htpc. i recently installed vista ultimate on it, and im having trouble playing videos in my video library within media center. ive googled the problem, and it seems that even tho it says on the ms website and the nvidia site that it is supported, it doesnt seem to have enough guts to run vista....

So im looking for something Reasonable enough that will play my videos in media center. Only have a AGP slot. Wont be used for gaming or anything, just videos....so dont want something overkill!

    Any suggestions??
    Cheers!

Have you tried newer display drivers like the 101.41 ?

    Anyway here are some suggestions
    6200 - fanless
    7600GS - fanless

Either of those should do, both come with 256MB of RAM.

i have the 96 ones which helped a little...now i can get in and play a video, but it crashes when its finished...

i tried the latest ones but when it goes to install it it says there is no hardware compatable with the drivers...setup will now exit..

I thought the Fx5200 was dropped from the Vista compatability list alright, maybe not but I could have sworn that alongside the GMA that was one of the other few that were included in the beta but not the full version.

The FX series where crap at DX9 but they should still be sufficient for Vista's requirements.

If you already have the 101.41 drivers extracted in the NVIDIA folder download the modded .inf from this thread and place it in the folder over writing the existing one and run the driver setup.exe in that folder.

That modded INF file adds support for all the FX parts so give that a go before going out and buying a new card.
