    Hello,

Thinking of flying to New York and then fly out to San Fran and drive the coast road. 2 of us. Other option is to do the Rockies by Rail? Anybody done this? Been to America - east coast before. Just wondering what the driving is like on the coast road from San Fran to LA - suppose to be ok. Would appreciate advise! Thanks.

I took highway 1 from LA to San Francisco back in 1992 in a VW bus, very much recommended. It takes much longer than the interstate 5 but much more scenic. Make sure you have the correct international driving permit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_State_Route_1

Not so sure about that, there Bradidup. I drove that route, and pretty much all of the west coast from Vancouver down to San Diego on my Irish license.

Highly recommended route, lots of places to stop at along the way.
