    Hi

I'm sure there have been other threads about this (but I seem to be unable to use the search function right now) so does any know of any guides or have any advice on how to get the DS online via Eircom? I'm trying to set up Portrait of Ruin but I keep getting error code 52000 and a message saying it could not obtain an IP address.

    Can anyone help?

Do you have the right equipment? (wireless network in your house and, i think, that USB dongle thing)

Yes I have a wireless network. Standard Netopia wireless router provided by Eircom. The USB adapter is only of use if you do not have access to a wireless network. It basically lets you connect the DS wireless to your PC so you can use its internet connection for online play.

There are lots of threads on this , cant find them myself at mo, as far as i remember the netopia router does not work with the DS .

I have tried myself countless times but could never get it to work

I don't recall anybody on here that has got it to work on the standard Eircom wireless router.

yeah it works fine, although it took me atleast 6 monts to get it on there. You need to go into the connection bit and do a manual set-up i.e. enter all the stuff (subnet mask, DNS, etc). Just set Auot-obtain IP and DNS to no and put them in yourself. And when you put in your i.p change the last digit to 12. i.e. IP Address = 192.168.1.12

I can't remember where to get your DNS numbers put i'll try to figure it out!!

That's what worked for me, feel free to ask any questions cause i know it took me ages to get it to work!!

Nope still can't get it to connect. This might be because I can find no information on my subnet mask. Any help?

Don't know if this helps but if you go to the ip address of your router
(http://192.168.1.254/) it will show you the eircom settings which are picked up automatically. maybe you can enter these for your wii.

    primary dns server : 213.94.190.194
    secondary dns server : 213.94.190.236
    ip gateway : 159.134.155.2

(these are the settings the router uses to communicate with the eircom servers)

With regards to your router it normally uses dhcp to assign an ip iddress to your pc and presumably to your wii.

You can get all these addresses by typing "ipconfig /all" in a dos box.

    it's usually something like
ip address : 192.168.1.x (so for your pc it would be 192.168.1.2, and your wii could be 192.168.1.3)
    subnet mask : 255.255.255.0 (default)
dhcp server/default gateway/dnsservers : 192.168.254 (internal ip address of router)

If for some reason dhcp is not working properly for your wii then you will need to manually assign an ip address to it.

    Easily done.

Click expert mode / configure / advanced / dhcp server
Your dhcp start address will be something like 192.168.1.1. Just change this to something higher like 192.168.1.4.
Now you can use anything from 192.168.1 to .3 for your wii.

One last thing - the wii may need to have port forwarding enabled so traffic can get past your router. If it does, then you need to make sure your Firewall is set to low, and
turn on uPNP. You can do this under configure / connection, tick the uPNP box. Alternatively leave uPNP off, and open a pinhole. Under Custom Services define a new service (Call it WiiTCPIP) and assign it a port no. Do the same for UDP. This may all be overkill and not needed.

Actually its not the Wii its my DS. The Wii was a breeze! All I had to do was enter my WEP key. What I wouldn't give for this to be as simple. Thanks so much for the information, I've tried out a few things but I still can't get the DS to connect. Would you have any idea of how to get the address information on a Mac? (No dos box obliviously)

    Oh right..DS..sorry :)

Well if you open the routers wepage (192.168.1.254) that will give you all the router/eircom settings on the homepage (dns addresses of eircom servers, routers gatway address etc..) Usually 2 DNS addresses (you only need 1 as the other is a fallback), and the actual gatway your router uses to communicate with the outside workd. That should be enough to enter into your DS I think. If DHCP is working you should not need to worry about the internal ip address that the router assigns to the devices on your network as it should be assigned automatically, same as it was assigned to your pc or pc's and your wii. That is the default behavious on Eircom routers.

However just in case the internal gatway your pc uses it's always 255.255.255.0), and the internal ip the router assigns to your pc can be found is you use OS X command "ifconfig -a". You will need to open up the Bourne shell to do this. (I think this is under utilities \ terminal)

Still cannot get my DS to connect. If anyone has gotten their DS online with an Eircom netopia router could you please give as much information on how you did it as possible? There has got to be some way.

jus type your IP Address (should be 192.168.1.254) into the address bar in your net browser and it'll give you your Primary and Secondary DNS numbers. Then find your wireless settings (should be beside your clock on the taskbar, it looks like a small monitor with signals coming out of it!) go to support in it and it will give you your Gateway and Subnet Mask. Then enter all of these into the relevant catsgories on your DS and change the last digit in your IP to 12

All done but the connection test keeps timing out with error 52100

Edit: Figured it out. For some reason I had to enter my IP address in place of my Gateway. Finally online with my DS!

if you get the time could you post an idiots guide to getting the eircom router working?

Here is exactly what I did.

Type 192.168.1.254 into the address bar of your web browser to get the necessary information.

    On the DS

    Enter you WEP Key

On the Auto obtain IP Address option select no

Enter you IP address but replace the last digits with 12 (so if your IP is 192.168.1.254 that would be 192.168.1.12)

Enter your subnet mask (should be 255.255.255.0)

In the Gateway field entire your unaltered IP instead of your gateway (In this example that would be 192.168.1.254)

Enter you Primary and Secondary DNS.

Test connection to see if it worked,

Thats what I did to get online. Hope it works for you!

I have no idea how much it would be, it is apparently quite hard to find. As I said early in the thread the WiFi adapter is not necessary if you have a Wireless network at home. Its plugs into your (Windows XP) PC so you can use it as a wireless hotspot. As such I would imagine it is compatible with all online DS games.

Error code 52100 was the error code I was getting before I figured out the need to replace my gateway with my IP. are you positive you have entered everything correctly?

To answer the USB Dongle question, they cost around 45euro. I got one in GameStop they didnt have it on display though i just asked and they had some behind the counter. Its quite cool, though Im starting to think i should've bought a router instead, would've been useful seeing as i have a laptop and all.

No, say you have a router which is not wireless but you still want to get online with your DS. You would plug the wireless adapter into a USB port on your PC, the adapter would then communicate wirelessly with your DS allowing it to get online via your PCs internet connection.

    No dice..
I followed your steps exactly i figure i have some security setting blocking my ds or maybe my ds is simply faulty.. :(
Ah well perhaps it just wasn't meant to be.
Thanks for your help im going to try looking at the security settings on my wireless.
Would a firewall or such stop it?

wordofmouth, try lowering your firewall setting to low on your router. You'll find it on the browser homepage. http://192.168.1.254

    Nope still no luck!
Appreciate the help though lads! How long did it take to test your connection? mine goes on a couple of minutes with that ringing sound then just cuts out and i get 52100!
I recently switched towers when my brother blew up our normal one while attempting to change my os! Lovely fellah didn't even consult me! So to get to my point i'm using the same internet connection but on a different computer from usual. Could this have any implications perhaps for ip address? I wouldnt have thought so just a stab in the dark. Not too handy with the 'puter you see!

Also couldn't connect in Jfk and shannon airport where there was wifi hotspots so maybe there could be something wrong on a hardware level?

Ive tried absolutely everything above, set my routers firewall to low and still no joy:( I keep gettin that error message. anyone any ideas to what else cud be preventing me from connecting? It says connected to access point but unable to connect to server error code 52100. Its so annoyng coz its showing up as full green connectivity yet wont connect.
