How to tile a roof?

my parents are getting the roof of their house re-tiled,

there a bit sceptical about the quality of the job being done.
and the lads that are doing it to seem to be rushing a bit,
considering its costing the price of a new car it'd want to be done right.

would anyone know what the right procedure is for tiling a roof?

what is the usual height when you go up another row of tiles?
my dad says that their going up about 4 inches each time? is that too much?

    any help appreciated.

You'd get a better answer in the diy forum

would the mod be able to move this thread,
if they think that it would be more appropriate in the diy section?
    thanks
