    Hi,
I'm new to this forum. I have been shocked by the hypocrisies of the latest remarks from John Travolta into writing this post. The actor, who owns five jets and a private runway, encouraged fans to "do their bit" to tackle global warming at the British premiere of his movie, Wild Hogs.

    His comments were as follows
"It [global warming] is a very valid issue. I'm wondering if we need to think about other planets and dome cities. Everyone can do their bit. But I don't know if it's not too late already. We have to think about alternative methods of fuel," The Daily Mail quoted Travolta, as saying.

These big stars should have pressure put on them to ditch their private jets which John Travolta considers essential as a business tool.

How can we put pressure on them to change their private jet habits?

i dont see the problem. does he use the five jets at once (or use them to shuttle people who would probably use private jets anyway).
How do you expect him to travel? He is not just going to stop travelling. It is too much a part of his life. He only says everyone can do there bit, not that he is going to. And one of the most important parts of that article is that he states that he is not the best candidate because of his jets. so I don't understand why that article was published and why it is being refered too. Even if he had been a hypocrit, what kind of (intelligient) people give a **** what he thinks about global warming?
By changing there private jet habits, do you mean by using comercial airlines or just not flying. Most people in his situation probably won't ever change there habits. I think a lot comes down to eduacating the young people who will becomes stars i the next 10-20 years so that they are concious from the beginning and don't ever adopt these habits.

The type of jet he has is not the most fuel efficient, the 707B is an aging thirsty beast and was designed way before enviornmental issues were a concern. It would probably be as efficient as modern twin engine jet twice its size, maybe if he flogged some of the other jets and with the bread has making could easily put it down on something more environmentally friendly.

It's probably been re-engined since, over the life of an aircraft the engines cost nearly as much as the airframe.

Anyway should the be should such riches be in the hands of a few ?

TGV's are capable of beating aeroplanes over long distances.
They can do 450Km during the 90 minutes you have to wait around in the airport. Add in waiting for baggage and the trip to / from the airport and you are have a few hundred Km more.

Absolutly not, there is millions starving in the world while many of the rich and famous live it up.

John Travolta admitted himself that he was "shaken" by a recent incident, what if he didn’t make it?
What good would all his riches be to him then? http://www.flatrock.org.nz/topics/flying/assets/travoltas_house.jpg

Agree and hopefully one day In Europe TGVs will compete with the likes of budget airlines. More leg room, more baggage allowances and they get you right into a city centre.

Sounds like a leprechaun having an argument with an actor about who's fake!

Remember this is called global warming, there is not moral scale here, 100 actors with jets are no worse then several million consumers having their out of season fruit and veg flown in from Africa and South America
