Battlestar Galactica - Season 1 Question

Right, I've got my hands on Episode 1 Season 1. ¬_¬

I went to watch it, and the start had "Previously on Battlestar Galactica" Does this mean that the episode I was watching wasn't actually Episode 1, Season 1 or does this happen on Battlestar?

I've heard there was a mini-series. I thought maybe this is what it meant by "previously".

The previously in series 1 episode 1 refers to the mini series which was totally great. You can get it from Amazon

Its (IMHO) absolutely essential to watch the mini series before you watch Season 1 - it explains so much, and its an absolute travesty that its not included in the Season 1 box set.

It's dirt cheap anyway. Definitely wouldn't watch Season 1 without it.
