Advice needed for "nasty" freeroll.

There's a league final with 8, 12 or 16 players coming up in 8 weeks or so, and I'm going to be in it. The number of players depends on whether a similar league is happening in sister casinos. Currently I assume 8 players but there was that little something as my big mouth that I cannot seem to keep shut. :o Its a freeroll so I'm not gonna miss it. Especially since the first price is a ticket into the WSOP'07. However, the snag here is that thats the only place paid. So 1st €±8K and 2nd nothing. Talk about a top-heavy payout structure. :) I know how to win (money in) regular tournaments. But I'm already starting to wonder if I need to adjust my game for this one.

Thus, any advice out there for me?

Speculate a lot in the early levels, especially in position, if you can see a cheap flop from the CO or Button, play ATC. If there's a lot of limping, loosen up in EP, you need to build a big stack, simple as (obvious I know, but more so here). If you have a big draw, try get it all in on the flop, gamble to get the chip lead. Keep speculating when it's cheap and you have position.

Loosen up in position against bigger stacks, and get involved in as many pots as you can with them. Your goal should be to get to HU with at least a 2/1 advantage.

Using this style, you either go broke or build a monster stack, and with only one prize, I feel there's no room for nitty play.

    Also, practice HU online.

Btw, thank you again for that QQ lost in the muck hand last Sunday.

I would have to guess here. Probably 5,500 starting stack with 20 minute blinds (25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200 etc.) and no antes. The players are the top 8 of the league so should be good (or playing too much ;) ).

So yesterday was the league game. Unfortunately there was nowhere near enough money for a WSOP ticket, so we played for the € 2,435 in the kitty instead. Everyone attending would get some money, so showing up was definitely +EV. Being sick I still strawled out to play. Out of the top eight, two never showed. More money for the six that were there so. :)

9K starting stack, 20 minutes per level. Not a bad structure at all. Most played the "gambool" game indeed. I doubled up early with Ks Kc after insta-calling my opponent after his CRAI on a As Qs 8s flop. I knew he was bluffing since I'm a rock player and I knew that he knew that... Hmmmmz, or maybe I was thinking too much and got lucky. He showed Kh Jd btw. ROFL

Me and Seamus (someone who's game I don't really know) were playing solid. All the others (whose games I do know) were caught doing the "gambool" by either him or me. Quite quickly we were heads up, me being slight chip leader. After 15 minutes the blinds changed but our stacks hadn't. Although there was still plenty of play left we split it for 805 each, which brings my ROI for that casino to well over 200% (14 games; 71% ITM).
