I'm applying for a masters in maynooth and I'm thinking of applying for campus accomodation too. Would I get it if i'm from Dublin? Whats it like? Is it expensive? Any other info about maynooth I should know?

You can contact the residence office directly at

    How to contact us:

    Ph: (01) 708 3322
    Fax: (01) 708 3523
    E-mail: residence.office@nuim.ie

Residents pay a €400 deposit for campus accommodation for 2007-08. This covers utilities for the year, any remainder is returned at the end of the year.

    River Apartments :
Single room: €105 per week. Total: €3,990 to be paid in two instalments

    Rye Apartments :
Single room: €93 per week. Total: €3,534 to be paid in two instalments

    Village Apartments :
Single room: €85 per week. Total: €3,230 to be paid in two instalments

Personally I think you're better off finding a house, if you contact the Residence office they can send you the housing list for around 'nooth.

There's an application form for on-campus at http://residence.nuim.ie/forms.shtml, though there's no guarantee of a place as there's only 900 places altogether and 6000 odd students. And afaik it's completely random.

I've looked on daft.ie and its a bit more expensive than i thought. Would there be much chance of finding a bedsit for about 500 a month?

a single room is usually 300-400... closer to the 300, I think...
(some do pay less than that, even)

Is that a single room in a flat or a bedsit though. I'd prefer to live on my own if possible. Are there many bedsits or one bedroom apartments?

No there aren't very many bedsits available tbh. I've only ever seen one or two garage conversions like that available on the housing list. I'm on campus this year and I'm very happy with the way it worked out, lived in a house last year and didn't like it at all. Everyone has different experiences though. I know there are apartments available in the Glenroyal apt building that are for two people, they are about 400-500 a month afaik. Obviously the less people you are sharing with the dearer it gets.

Is it even possible to get a single room apartment on campus at Maynooth?I'm doing my Leaving and have Business and Management in NUIM as my first choice, and i'm fairly confident i'll get the projected points (around 400) so i've already put my name down for student accomadation, and apparently i've a good chance of getting it as I live so far away from Maynooth (Donegal), but they didn't ask anything about what type of accomadation I wanted.Am I just randomly assigned a room somewhere? Also is there wi-fi available in all on site accomadation in Maynooth? Thanks in advance.

they'll try and match you with people your own age/year i think, apparently vary from 3,5 and 7 people as far as I know.

I'm hopefully doing the masters in economics. I'm in UCD at the moment and I hate it. Everyone I know who went to maynooth seemed to really like it and the campus is really gorgeous apparently so I'm pretty sure I want to check it out. THe lack of a place to myself would really put me off though. What is the campus accomodation like? Is it nice?

What is it that you hate about UCD? Generally people like Maynooth because you can get to know people well. Do you know many people in NUIM. Is it the straight ma in eco you are going to do? The economics dept is highly rated in maynooth and the staff there are very helpful. I did the eco & finance ma there(also degree) its tough but the craic is great. The economics masters would probaly be harder then the finance one due to economics being harder at masters level than finance(can be the reverse at undergrad). It defo would be easier to get into the msc in UCD but if you get maynooth then i would defo take it. Again im just saying that unless you know people in maynooth i think you really should live with people, it's a really stressful year the first semester of a ma is hell. I lived for 3 months on my own while doing the ma and i hated it and i had already been in maynooth for 3 years. But i'm not you but you have been warned.:D

I think all economics masters require a 2.1 I'm hoping to do the ma in competition and regulation. I'm applying for UCD and trinners too but i'm sick of UCDs disastrous admin and horrible unhelpful economics department and ugly campus and crap location too.

I've heard maynooths economics dept is almost as good as UCD so I thought i'd give it a shot. I don't know anyone there but I know a few people who did their undergrad and said it was really small and friendly. I'm just loathe to live with strangers after having two crazy ex flatmates and I wouldn't want that hassle when I was studying. I'd like to get campus though, i'd be willing to share if I got that.

Im nearly sure Maynooth is ranked above ucd in the economics dept, well it was 2 years ago. The boss man Gerry Boyle is gone so that may have brought down the ranking and also Maurice Roache is on leave(that is actually a good thing:D ). Tuvanna Pastines husband lectures in eco in ucd as far as i know. If you do comp and reg you wont have to do macro(it's real bull**** at ma level) also you will have some comp & reg subjects that you will be able to score well in so that will bring up your final grade, also for your thesis you will not need a lot of econometrics(its a major part of the straight ma thesis and it's a major pain). Also it's highly regarded and most students do well in it and get jobs in regulation field and also the normal fields.
