    Hi all,

I started up the PC last night and AVG wouldn't work properly - it's icon did not go to the system tray and I cannot launch the AVG Control Centre at all.

A message flashes up saying that the system DLL was relocated in the memory.

I have tried uninstalling it and then installing it again but to no avail...

Did you try a system restore?

very strange. Have you tried going to AVG site and seeing if there's a similar problem in the FAQ or forums?

Did it say what the DLL was?

    user32.DLL is what it says...

just googled this, possibly could be some malware issue
    http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=95333

If you go and dl this
    http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html
click "Do a system scan and save a logfile" and post it here, I can see what the problem is.

    If this is the message:
    "RTHDCPL.EXE-ILLEGAL SYSTEM DLL RELOCATION
The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\windows\system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for windows system DLL's. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL"

then have a look at this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/. Had the same thing myself but this patch fixed it :)

I tried that patch but it still doesn't load up AVG Control Centre for me.
    Maybe if I re-install AVG...

If you have XP plug out the network cable and do a system restore. Its the easiest way. Then get back online and asap update wondows and your AVG. Then do a full sweep with AVG and somthing like Ewido to make sure you are virus and malware free. Should sort you out.

just uninstall it (via the control panel), run CCleaner's reg cleaner and reinstall.
