Bike cleaning service?

Hardcore enthusiasts may scoff but if this doesn't exist, it probably should: a full bike-cleaning service.

I'm not talking "a rub of a damp cloth" but a thorough degreasing and cleaning of all parts of your bike, followed by a lubing of all relevant parts.

I don't think bike shops do it (I could be wrong) but somebody should, as it can be a time-consuming task.

    I'd pay for it anyway...

I probably would to (if the price was right) - once a year after winter coming into the good weather would be a good time.

I think the best you'd get though is a full service. I wonder how much they would charge to clean the bike completely as well. Have you seen how much Cycleways charge for a full service ?

It is time consuming, and can be dangerous if you take short cuts and use a power hose. It wouldn't be much extra work for them to do it in the shop when they have it on the rack, so it might be something they would consider.
I do think a lot of people with stressful jobs, kids and other hobbies would pay for it.

Have you ever mentioned it to any shops ?

No I haven't mentioned it. It may well be that some of them do offer the service, but I doubt it. I'd like to be proved wrong, though...

yeah I'd pay as well. I hate cleaning my bike and it's silly to spend thousands on a bike and not make sure it's clean.

Don't quote me on this - but as far as I remember, a full services would cost you circa 100 euros in cyleways. There are lesser options than the full service, and this was a few years ago too.

I'm open to correction on this price - anyone else know exactly ? I couldn't justify paying it, so do a lot of maintenance myself. However, if they were to clean the bike fully too, I would probably even pay close to that once a year.

Me too. I reckon I'd pay €25 for a good clean-up alone. Does that seem like a fair price?

Depends how thorough a job you expect them to do. How long do you think it would take them?
I would be expecting to pay at least €40 per hour for any job in a shop, to cover wages & overheads, price going up on the qualification/wages for the job being done,

I'd be expecting a total clean-up, as detailed above. To someone who knew what they were doing and had the right equipment, I imagine it wouldn't take more than 45 minutes.

How much do bike mechanics get per hour, on average? I don't think it should cost as much as 45 minutes-worth of servicing. Cleaning a bike requires some knowledge and experience but nothing like as much as fixing one (if one can speak generally about these things).

there used to be bike shops in England where they would strip the bike and grease everything and change the bearings for about £100, but that was a long time ago
