If you're using 2 x 400 power amps what pre amp are you using? Indeed what are the power amps? Do you intend to bi-amp them..... mono blocks or what?

I know Cloney Audio in Blackrock have quite a few trade-ins at the minute and a mate has just traded in his System Audios 1280's.

I'd hazard a guess that it's one of these. The PSU should be interesting ! Actually scrap that, I've just seen them on that site, not good !

I've got 2xFET400 -Pro Audio Amplifier 1x400Watt RMS and 2xKIT125F - Power Supply ±35V @25A @10000uF. I'm using two 450VA transformers for the power supplies. Everything is working OK - excellent quality - excellent support from professional audio. My only problem is that I've got 2x 100Watt speakers and i want to use the amps at full power so I'm looking for a set of speakers around 400-500Watt.

Is this for a domestic set up or for a disco bar / club installation ? 800W is one heck of a lot of power for a normal home situation unless your in the middle of a very large field of course. Do these amps have any form of anti-thump protection ?

Searching for speakers with that kind of power handling just turns up PA gear or very expensive >€2000 stuff.

    Kefs Reference range handle 400w.

These "claim" to handle that power but at that price I wouldn't expect much tbh:

    400Watt Floor standers

But these might just do the trick ! :D

You'd never use these at full tilt in a domestic setting, get bigger speakers sure but don't select speakers just on the basis of output. IMHO you're building a loud unsubtle and possibly harsh system - fine for a PA or small bar/café but utterly wrong for a living room.

This thread Kind of reminds me of Back to the Future , where Michael J fox Asks " Whats a Gigawatt Doc " before he learns how to fly !! :D

    ( Well its almost a gigawatt anyway ... 0.8 anyway )

My system is only 170 W and about half power it actually starts to feel uncomfortably loud ( almost painful on the ears ) .

Same for my 120W system (Yamaha AX396+Mission M33). Even my second zone (Wharfedale Valdus 100+TOA BA823) sounds very loud at a low level.

I'd only use an amp that big if I was wiring a whole house series/parallel or something. Even the shop I used to work in which had a bar-grade sound system only had 325W/channel on 8 channels for a 3-floor store. It would be loud enough by the time the 1/8-power signal light flashed.
