Resident Evil 4 Wii - Official!

Rumours of Resident Evil 4 coming to Wii kicked off last week when an online retailer listed a Wii version of the game before promptly removing the page.

Now Famitsu magazine has revealed that Capcom is indeed beavering away on a Wii conversion, complete with updated controls.

You will, of course, use the Wii Remote to aim your gun and stab forwards with the knife. The Daily Mail is going to LOVE that.

Currently referred to as Bio Hazzard 4: Wii Edition, the game will also contain all the extras that were added to the PS2 version, including the Ada Wong 'Separate Ways' mini-game mode.

More Wii ports are not good news, but when we're talking about a game as good as Resident Evil 4, we can't complain.

Interestingly, in an interview in the same issue, Resi creator Shinji Mikami apologises for porting Resident Evil 4 to PS2 (after it was announced to be GameCube-exclusive) saying it "betrayed both GameCube and PlayStation users". Despite the graphical inferiority, we can't see why PS2 fans would have complained.

    Fantastico :D
Always wanted to play the extra content, but could't, not having a PS2!
I still have my GC version of RE4, but I know I would still get this...

Kinda pointless if you ask me. It'll be little more than a 'directors cut' with tacked on motion controls.

Yeah true, but it is still a fantastic game. Hopefully it won't be full price (I won't buy it for full price if it is).

Still, in the face of the news that Umbrella Chronicles is going to be an on rails shooter, it's possibly good news. Then again, Capcom did a great job of an on rails shooter with Killer 7...

So buying this. RE4 was the only GC game I didnt trade in as I knew I'd play it again at some point! now I get to play a redone version!
    Wooo!!

Still, in the face of the news that Umbrella Chronicles is going to be an on rails shooter, it's possibly good news.
Digging around about Umbrella Chronicles gleaned a rumour that the on-rails part is a mercenaries type arcade-y minigame within portions of the previous games while the main game is set between the originals and Resident Evil 4 (perhaps covering Leons training and Umbrella's downfall).

    I can only hope.

Won't be buying RE4 again for the Wii, the extra content and truly tacked-on controls aren't enough incentive to buy a game i already have.

EDIT: http://wii.ign.com/articles/776/776549p1.html We'll get our news on RE:UC on April 12

It was already a fantastic looking game, and the meagre extra power of the Wii is hardly going to give it a worthwhile graphical overhaul.
Then again, I'm very tempted to get it after attempting to play the pile of ****e that was the pc port...

Please tell me that the Umbrella Chronicles news was an April fools joke:(

Yeah, I suffered through some of that too, played sh!te, looked sh!te, even though it was the same game, it just wasn't the same.

The whole game revolves around shooting-gallery combat. The Wii remote lets you point at the screen and shoot, like a shooting gallery. I can't think of a better control set-up for Resi 4.

Except for that fact that they removed mouse-controlled combat from the PC for the very same reason... it'd make it way too easy.

I'll stave off and wait for Umbrella Chronicles and pray that the words on the internet about it being 'on-rails' aren't completely true.

I loved Resi 4 on the GC
    Graphics were great
I'm getting this if the reviews look good

I know this will sell well, which is a pity. The floodgates are well and truly open for a flood of lazy last-gen ports on Wii. It sure worked for Zelda!

Aiming at the TV from a distance with the Wii remote is completely different from pointing and clicking with a mouse, though. It's more akin to using a light gun, which would be ideal for Resi 4.

I agree that it's disheartening to see a game everyone's already played being shoved onto the Wii, but hopefully it'll set a precedent for run-and-gun/shooting galleries tailored to its strengths. I think they'd work much better with the remote and nunchuck than trying to shoe-horn FPS controls and conventions, especially if someone hurries the **** up with a light-gun shell for the remote.

I am a bit p!ssed about this. I really loved Res. Evil 4 on the GC (and all the games in the series), everything was perfect about it. Mind you once i beat it a few times i traded it in, the replayability wasnt great IMO.

But I cant help but feel that I will be taken for a ride if i get this "new" game. Biohazrd 4 Wii Edition (Biohazard 4 was the Japanese name of the original release back in 2005 so nothing new there), is basically the same game that was on the GC with a few extras thrown in for good measure. I am not wasting my money on a game ive already played and beaten, screw that.
Even with the motion controls its going to be the same ole game, i'll still know how to beat it.
There are and should be other FPS by the time RS4 comes out.

It does how whoever say on wikipedia that it might be a budget price game.

    Lazy waste of time. :(
They should just make a new one

Lots of people bought a Wii, that did not own a Gamecube. I was going to lend my Resi4 GC to someone that bought a Wii, but now I won't bother, they can just buy this one instead ;) It introduces the game to a lot of people that didn't play it the first time round, and that can only be a good thing (because it's such a great, great game). Price that was listed on Gamestop when it was there briefly was $30 and I think Famitsu said that too.

I could say now that I won't buy it, but I know I will eventually, I'm a sucker for RE (and it'd be the third Resi4 I'd own, eeek). Don't see the point in moaning about this, if you have already played RE4 and aren't interested in this, don't buy it. They're still doing RE:UC (and RE5 for 360/Wii).

    Oh and according to Famitsu:

    - Every extra the PS2 had over the GCN version.
    - Full motion control over your knife.
    - New enemies and bosses
    - Back to the original real-time cutscenes that the GCN had.
    - Gamecube controller support.
    - May 31st release date.
    - $30

    Woo-hoo,

No more trundling through all the old GC games in my local gamestop looking for RE4! I'll take the Wii version to tie me til 5 comes on 360.....

    ;)

Agree 100%, I think if it's done right it could be a killer app for people who didn't have a GC. It's still the premier 3rd person shooter on any system (yes even better than Gears of War).

Well I have it on the gamecube so thats enough for me

Well after what I just read about Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles I doubt i'm going to get it apparently its going to be a 1st person shooter and in a lot of battles you can't actually move you just point your gun at the enemies...
Its gonna be like those crap gun surviver games

I think i read that only certain sections of the Umbrella Chronicles are on rails. Even so, I think Capcom learned their lessons about on-rail games and light gun games with the Survivor and dead-aim games (and to an extent killer 7) so I'm remaining optimistic (at least until the reviews come in)

Ugh, an on-rails game would suck! But I'll probably get it and RE4 Wii, I'm a real sucker for Resi. I'm glad I held off on the PS2 version, since the Wii one will have all the stuff I missed in the GC version. I wonder if I'll go to the trouble of getting 5 stars on all the Mercenaries levels again? Probably!
