    Hi Everyone.

I have been reading this thread with interest but am yet to post.

I live in Donabate and at the weekend I bought a UK DVB box from Argos in Sprucefield for £20.

I have tried to pick up digital signals on a standard unamplified rabbit ears and have been unable to get anything.

If I put the aerial out the window I get somewhere around 24UHF 8 channels named CH_1 to CH_7 and one called Station Name. None of these have any picture or sound.

Can anyone point out if I am doing anything wrong or suggest anything.

I am unable to get a strong analogue terrestrial signal.

I think all the stations are now encrypted :(

I bought a box a few weeks ago and I got almost the same as you but when I checked the 'show encrypted' all the stations(rte, sky sports, bbcs etc) appeared but you need to enter the key to decode them

And does anyone know the key?

The RTÉ/TV3/TG4 mux (on channel 54) are not encrypted. Its free to air.

The stuff you are getting on channel 26 are the DVB-H mobile handheld trial, no DTT box will decode them.

If it is possible, try manually tuning to Channel 54 and see what you get.

"The key" is getting a trial box with cam and card from the Department.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate.

I currently am forced by my property developer to rely on Magnet Networks. To call them unreliable would be doing Magnet a great service. Hopeless is perhaps more apt.

It would be great to get something else to work for when Magnet goes down.

you would have to have the aerial at a south facing window to start with and an unblocked path to get a decent signal (from the transmitter in the Dublin Mountains)

No luck at all, I'm afraid.

I also took it to a friend's house in Portobello and was unable to pick up anything of any use there.

It is amazing how backward Ireland is on this compared to the UK. Looks like I may move house or else continue with my stop / start, non lip-synched, incorrect epg, missing channels Magnet Networks service.

As I mentioned on the stickie thread - get the box to scan for all channels including encrypted channels This will be in the configuration settings. You should then be able to 'see' all channel names and RTE1/2/TV3/TG4 will be in the clear.

Anybody noticed that the EPG is no longer updated?
