Island location

Maybe i posted this before . so apologies if i have
but i have a theory on the location of the island.
I have only seen untill ep 11 so .. maybe im wrong ..
if anyone wants to post spoilers please use the tag..

I think the island is in the indian ocean not the Pacific.
How would the plane from Nigeria end up in the mid-pacific,
okay okay i know the plane the losties were on would have to be
WAY of course .. but this is something the writers could easily fix ..
like if that plane was meant to crash there all along, the instruments on the
plane could have been banjacked from take off..
ok so the writers could give us a similar explanation of how a plane from Nigeria ended up in the mid pacific.. but isn't that a nice WTF moment/Twist ?

In the middle of the indian ocean .. all this time!!!

    comments/thoughts/insults welcome!!

They can't be too far away from land, the Beaehcraft Aircraft that the drugs were found in has only a maximum range of 1600 nm!

Yeah true, it is impossible for them to be over 1600 nm away.

I've also heard it suggested that the island may in fact be moving all the time. It would explain a lot imo.

I don't think the Island is moving, but i can't explain that if it is only a max of 1600 nm away from the Mainland then how no one else has found this Island.

Interesting theory. It would help explain why the Others needed to broadcast a signal so the sub could find the island, rather than just using map coordinates.

Exactly. I'm still not sure if I like the idea but there has to be something more that keeps the island so well hidden that even the Others needed that beacon to find the place.

On a full tank thats its range, if they had fuel on board it could double.
    in-flight refill :)

What? I doubt someone will hang out of a aircraft to re-fuel it :P

Where was Yemi's drug plane destined for? Sydney? If so it would have had to make numerous refuels en route from Nigeria. Probably another 2 before it left Africa heading east, perhaps one on the Arabian peninsula, and another 3 or 4 along southern and southeastern Asia.
And who knows, maybe the all-conquering, all-knowing, all-replicating box that puked up Locke's father last week also puked up a plane full of dead priests, druglords and heroin-filled Virgin Marys?

If the island can move, maybe it was once close enough to Africa for the drugs plane to crash on it without needing to refuel. Still wouldn't explain how Desmond couldn't sail away from it though.

Of course it would, the island simply followed him so slowly that it never left his sight when he looked back and he came to think he was in this snowglobe

hehe that would be quite funny. But I think there must be some sort of shield around the island that prevents anyone from leaving, except via the sub. It's still unknown if Michael and Walt managed to get rescued. But Ben gave him a precise heading so maybe...

who cares where the island is? like it means nothing really.. we know they cant leave the island without doing it right (only the others know how)

What do you mean by, "doing it right"?

to leave the island you need to follow the correct bearings.

remember Desmond and his boat, just after the PC was broken and he ran away, he was at sea trying to escape for weeks but kept on coming back to the Island.

then the Others gave Micheal ( i think thats his name..the black fella!) the right bearings, and now they are gone!

Ah right, i was unsure of what you meant. Still we are unsure if Michael is gone for good. I don't think he is actually gone.

    Bearing 325.

My joke theory was that there was a big dome around the island, like in The Truman Show, and they could get out underneath it with a submarine, or through a gap/doorway on bearing 325, but Desomd couldn't because the magnetetic anomoly screwed up navigation AND he kept bumping off the big dome (but was too drunk to notice) which didn't let him leave...

    JOKE theory remember! :p
