I hate the hairdressers

I hate going to the hairdressers. It stresses me out. I think its a complete rip-off!

I hate the fake-smiling and saying "yes I love it, its erm, different!" when really you have something completely different that what you went in for.

I hate having to stare at myself in the mirror for an hour nursing a luke warm coffee, and having to pay 60 euro for the privilidge of some 'young wan' hacking my hair with a thinning scissors, and reminding me how bad the condition of my hair is, and then leaving to attend to somebody else who is getting a color done.

Somebody please help me find a nice hairdresser in Dublin who will treat me like a real person, and actually make me look nice, rather than just my hair!

    Sigh.

I agree with you Glowing - the last couple of times I went to the hairdressers I felt like I was in some sort of factory, in and out as quickly as possible. I was told in a very loud voice how I needed medicated shampoo for my 'problem scalp' and was asked to pay for the cut before it was finished. The cut itself took the hairdresser about 3 minutes and then when I asked for it to be staightened I ended up like an 80's B movie star. I had to ask him three times to make it straighter and even then (with irons) it wasnt straight.

Again please recommend a place that gives good friendly service that cuts your hair the way you want it - and doesnt charge through the roof for it.

I'm living in Dublin but only go to the hairdressers in my home town (small and cosy!) and they do a great job there. I seriously doubt I could get the same quality of service up here where you are treated like you are on a conveyor belt. If it's an option, try to go to a hairdressers not in the city centre?

I reccommend House of Colour on Wellington Quay. The stylist I see there is very friendly and makes a small bit of chat but then if I want to read she respects that and is quiet :)

They also make a good cup of tea, massage your scalp when they're washing it and generally treat as an individual. I've never felt like I'm being rushed either.

It's not cheap though. Wash, conditioning treatment and cut with the top stylist is €68.

    i agree with Glowing!

i hate the hairdresser, no matter how you tell them to do it they somehow manage to do it differently! i actually get nervous when i go to the hairdresser and would never get my hair cut before some thing important, just in case...

I hit Peter Mark in Rathmines. Wash, cut and blowdry for under €40 and I've never walked out of there anything other than happy. Tbh watch what the hairdresser is doing, explain yourself properly and don't be afraid to stop them at any stage to clarify what you want.

If you go into a student class in House of Colour than a hair cut is free.

Ive been going to the Toni and Guy student training nights for years...feck spending €140 on a few measly highlights in peter marks or the likes. It takes a few weeks to get an apt but its well worth it. Ive loved every colour ive got done in there and its never more than €40. The students are lovely and never patronising like the stylists u get in other salons. They take their time, constantly ask you if you're alright and u save a rake load of money at the same time..what more could ya want :D

Cool! That sounds great. How do I contact them and where are they based?

    .

They might not be overly thrilled about making the same chit chat everyday with people either (especially when hungover!!!) :D

I know some people hate doing this but take a pic in and say you want your hair like that! I think it makes the whole experience soooo much easier instead of trying to explain to the stylist what you really want.
I also agree with previous comments - get out of the city centre when going to the hairdresser, my sis only gets her hair done when she is home and would never pay the dublin prices for it.

The only hairdresser who ever made me completely happy with a haircut and gave me a cut I could recreate at home left the country in January so I am on the lookout for someone new.

Hey do you guys tip when you get your hair cut - just for a wash and cut taht takes 15 mins?? I'm going to the hairdressers tomorrow but I won't rate them yet - the first time they were ok, the second time really good and tomorrow will be the third time so I will post back with a verdict.

And worth every penny! I have never left there feeling anything less than 100%
happy with my hair. Whatever hairdresser you choose, if there's a certain style you'd like, bring picture's. Most stylists try their best to give you what you ask for but, verbal discriptions can be subjective, pictures make sure you're not misunderstood. Good luck!

Last time I got my hair cut I went to Blow on Baggot St. Wash, cut and blowdry, €50. More importantly, the stylist listened to EXACTLY what I wanted, which never happens, and explained why she was doing everything in a friendly manner so I didn't worry, had I been inclined to worry in the first place. A really nice experience. I normally get my hair cut by students and there's one particular girl in the hairdressers in the GPO arcade in town who's amazing, if I could afford to get her to do a cut and colour again (although I kind-of like being back to my natural colour now...).

i brought in a picture once and the girl kept going on about how that wouldnt suit my hair for loads of different reasons, she ended up doing it her own way anyway!

I only get me hair done at home in Sligo in a place called Salon 2. They are amazing. Not to cheap but worth every penny. I won't think of going anywhere else now coz I've had to many disasters from "Stylists"who butchered my poor hair. My first trip was the first time I left the hairdresser happy and it was a major cut. (I had been able to sit on my hair and it was cut to above my shoulders!)
I know it doesn't help with the hairdressers in Dublin but if you are ever in Sligo. I would highly recommend. :D
