iMac hardware questions

I've two questions about the hardware in the current iMacs...

What type of sound chip is in them? (I'm assuming AC'97 or HD audio)
How many RAM slots are free, if any? I'm wondering since I have a 1GB SO-DIMM module which I'd like to add in myself if I get one.

iMac comes with 2 slots, already filled -- no free slots. Also, it uses PC2-5300 (DDR2 667).

As regards audio, I think a little reading is in order ;)

Thanks, so it's HD audio, pretty much standard these days.

I don't like the whole dual channel RAM thing, brings you back to the days of installing pairs of SIMMs into a 486! While I can't get it up to 2 gigs I can manage 1 and a half which should be fine for me.

I would get a Mac mini only there's no way in hell I'm taking a shared memory PCI graphics chip. I had the original G4 mini with the R9200 graphics (at the time they were gloating about having dedicated graphics in such a cheap machine, grr!).

That's what I have installed in my iMac and it's fine for everything I do. Although I may upgrade to 2GB when Leopard arrives. The cost of a 1GB chip has really dropped though. When I got my imac late last year it cost me over a 100 euro for a 1GB chip from Crucial. They're now selling it for 60. Hopefully the 2GB chips will have dropped significantly by then.

I was really pissed at Apple for leaving no free slots.
