DD surcharges to become illegal on Thursday

    For those of you who are angry about your NTL/Chorus €2.50 surcharge for using methods of payment other than DD : you may be interested to know that the Consumer Protection Bill 2007 is expected to be signed into law on Thursday. Keep an eye on the news! I've been in touch with my local TDs about the issue over the last few days and they've been keeping me up-to-date with the progress of the bill.

    This outlaws the non DD penalty fees, along with a lot of other sharp practices.

    It'll be interesting to monitor how companies comply with the new law.

    Aren't general elections great!

    section 48 and 49 are the relevant bits . They will also nobble Ryanair CC surcharges . Mind you the entire act will not have the effect of making BT Ireland fix its criminal billing system ...thats unless the fraud squad are right in there next tuesday morning for ye olde dawne raidde

    Section 53 also criminalises companies that threaten to send legitimate disputes to debt collectors ( 53d 53e and 53f )
