SKY receiver questions

I have 2 SKY dishes and want to sell one, any idea which is better and I should keep? One is a Panasonic (which someone told me has a better reception) the other is the new white PACE box.

I'm thinking of unsubscribing from SKY. Will my box receive any channels if I do this or does it just go blank?

I'm presuming you mean Sky boxes. I prefer the pace boxes as they are neater, if you cancel your subscription you will still receive the FTA cards. Some boxes come programmed with the Irish channels i.e. rte 1 on 101, and some come with the english channels such as BBC on 101.

Power down your box for about 2mins and switch back on without the card in the slot and you will see what channels you will receive if you decide to cancel your sub, so you can decide if going FTA is the rite decision for you.

    Regards,
    Steve

If your box still has RTE on 101 do this:

    1) make sure card in slot
    2) go Sky 501
    3) press Interactive (red button)
    4) Wait for it to load
    5) Remove card
    6) Press backup
    7) Wait, do not insert card EVEN if instructed to do so
    8) UK EPG with BBC, ITV etc on 101, 102, 103 appears

    See http://bytelive.com/wiki/tiki-index.php?page=Free+To+Air+on+Sky
for list of free channels that work when you have no subscription..

You may also get Sky3 on a cancelled subscription with your card.

The panasonic issue refers to a particular box, and in fringe reception in Spain/Gibraltar. If you are selling a Sky Digibox, keep the newer one.

Some boxes show UK program guide without a card from unplugged, and some don't.

Can I also combine getting UTV with my subscription package as it stands now?

    Yes you can frobisher

Press service at the top of your remote select option 4 for system setup and then option 4 for to add channels

Type in the following by using your remote
    Freq 10906
    Polarisation V
    FEC 5/6
The highlight find channels and press select

Highlight the channels you wish to add and press the yellow button and it will but a little tick beside it...then press save to add the channel

You may also want to try these freq as well for more channels such as itv2 and bbc3 +4 etc

    For ITV2 + ITV 4
    Freq 10758
    Polarisation V
    FEC 5/6

    For Bbc's
    Freq 10773
    Polarisation H
    FEC 5/6

When your finished simply exit the menus and press services and then select option 6 to view the channels if its a Standard Sky Box or option 8 if you have a sky+ or Sky HD box

    Regards,
    Steve

Sadly you can't record on Sky+ or HD. See the Stickies for tuning BBC & ITV regions etc.

Both are good boxes, though I'd pick the Pace as it's newer, and those white ones have been pretty reliable unlike their 2500 predecessors.
