Any place to get decent training weapons in Ireland??

I've see the "foam pistols", and they are crap for practicing disarms as they just buckle when you grab them. What I'm looking for is something that has the right shape and rigidity. I'd like some of the "Red training weapons" that are bright red plastic replicas, but I don't want to order them on line - just in case there are any hassles with customs (you know what they are like :().

    Thanks,

    B.

Pick up one of the cheap airsoft springers of eBay for €20 or so (before they're banned !). Throw on some safety glasses and you've got the makings of a pretty realistic self defence scenario.

    Cheers guys....:D

Just one thing, would there be any hassle getting them through customs (via post)?

Shouldn't be any problem buying from within the EU.

I've brought in several airsoft (or "softair" as they call it in Germany) AEGs without any problems. All bought off eBay, all shipping from Germany. Couple of P99's, a Desert Eagle and a Beretta 92F. All cheap and cheerful and perfect for gun disarms.

I got a bulk load in for a place I trained in from the US they were really good quality, I've used the Red Gun & they are just as good but a fraction of the price under €20 including shipping.

I can't remember the name of the company but I have the website at home in my favourites, I'll post it later.

    Hope you're keeping well Baggio.

    Hey Jmick...

That had actually crossed my mind after seeing some that Lee Morrison had specially made. They were pretty cool. They had no trigger guard so you couldn't damage you fingers. They also had a really nice weight.

Theres just one tiny problem... I'm absolutely crapola at making stuff. It's like I don't even have opposable thumbs or summit when it comes to me creating anything. :)

    Hey Im2Lazy,

That's exactly the type of stuff I'm looking for. The red weapons that are a durable plastic - that look and feel semi-realistic. Even if they are bright red;) . I'd really appreciate the link...

    Thanks,

    B.

PS - hope things are going well with yourself.

There are "blue guns" available as well, same idea.

Why not try some of the plastic water pistols or even die cast cap guns that are about. I was like a kid in a toy shop last time I called in to "Toymaster" ;)

I've tried water pistols in the past... alas they did not last long, they just kept splitting apart. Although the die cast ones might be suitable.

    Cheers,

the link is http://www.selfdefensegear.com it doesn't seem to still be up on the web but their Ebay link is still working http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZselfdefensegear The guns aren't listed at the moment but I'm sure you could contact them if you wanted. I check I paid $10 plus shipping.
They are defiantely worth the effort, excellent training tool .

I haven't done anything with my own in ages.
What about you, sorted the combatives one for Mick yet?

    Hey man,

I'll keep my eyes peeled for it... There were some cool photos last time I looked art it. My own personal site I've not done anything with it either. It should be me the one that's called IM2LAZY...;)

    Yeah man, I finished Mick Coup's site some time ago. I've not trained with him for ages. I designed it, but my girlfriend did the programming. Here's the link;

I've been training with Lee Morrison most of the time these days. Myself and Jon are heading over in April for some private tuition, and the workshop. Can't wait...:D

    How's the KM going?

    Cheers,

    B.

I like the look of the site, very nice!

Lee's a good instructor, I really enjoyed the seminar I did with him.
    Interesting drills.

I haven't been training KM in a while, I had to switch my training days so couldn't really make it down. Been doing a bit of BJJ in Roper's & concentrating more on the Eskrima too.

    Cheers man,

I wanted to do some more stuff to it but I did not really have the time in the end.

As an intructor Lee is excellent - he's been able to correct my body mechanics, I've found that I'm hitting alot harder than I was before. Finally getting the hang of the "Drop step".

That must have been the first UC seminar that I missed...:( I went to the one at Jon's place which was great. I've been going over as often as I can afford. I did my first grade in the UC Instructors syllabus a few weeks back - which was cool (still got a lot more to do though :)).
Lee's been great, he been very hospitable, hopefully I can return the favor when he comes over here again.

Nice one on the Escrima and BJJ. I saw some interesting Krav DVDs the other week - some good stuff on them.

I was doing a bit of Muai Thai with Paddy Clint - which was really excellent. But it's been postponed for a bit, as Paddy has been busy. So I'm hoping to resume it ASAP. In fact I think Paddy is in Thailand at the mo'. :) He's prolly going to meet up with Mill while he's out there.

    Cheers,

    R.

Quick piece of advice - when you do get the guns, regardless of style, saw off or cut the finger guard. Often times when practising disarms at full speed the finger of the assailant can get caught in the guard and break easily. Great in real life, not so in training.

Good call... I've heard plenty of horror stories about people have busted their fingers up in training.

How's things going with yourself btw?
