I got a 350D from Jessops this morning. €600, so I'm happy enough. I'm gonna stay at the kit lens for a while before deciding what to get. It feels weird just being able to snap away. I will sorely miss my prime lenses though, the 100 macro in particular. I think I'll have to get my hands on something along those lines soon. I almost went for the Pentax DSLR but figured my existing lenses weren't good enough to warrant it.

So now to figure out how to use the damn thing. All these buttons!

I had a Nikon film camera and went to a nikon digital and my lenses transferred fine. Can not the same be done for you?

You could get one of those adapters from ebay, I've got a few m42 lenses that I'm gonna start using on my 400D. I've got no money to buy proper lenses, and I always liked the lenses that I had anyway, so now I'll have a wide 18-55 (kits lens), 50 prime and a 75-200 mm. I just ordered a few bits and pieces off ebay like half an hour ago, so will be nice to have a few nice accessories!

And congrats on the new camera! I love having a DSLR! I got a 4 gig card too, so I'm seriously snap happy lately, and you can so many differents variations of each shot (DOF/exposures etc) and decide on your favourite when you have a proper look on the pc.

    Yes. Adapters.

From the looks of it, there are 2 types of Pentax mount - PK and M42. You can get adapters for both. If you need an M42 adapter, let me know, I have one at home that I don't need, you can have it.

do the adapters provide full aperture coupling?
the one i have (olympus) stops the lens down to the selected aperture constantly; so you have to stick it on aperture priority or manual, and CW metering, and focus wide open.

That adapter - it says I have to remove the aperture lever. I think I know what that is.. I know the one on my 100 is a bit finnicky, it kept sticking when I got it first. They seem delicate things to be removing and sticking back on, and both I and my other half want to keep the film camera going. Has anyone used these a lot? I'd also be a bit dodgy they'd damage the DSLR in some way??

My primes are PK Cambo. Oh well... :)

No, they are physical adapters only. Not sure if you can get fully electronic ones, but I'd say if you can, they wouldn't be worth it

I have an Praktica M42 adapter which I use on my Canon 350D. The only lenses that work are manual focus, manual aperture ones. This arrangement is fine for still life and macro setups but that is about the limit.

Congrats on youre new toy ... :p

Now all you need to do is go mad buying accessories, computers, printers etc ... and you will be truely poor ...

On that subject I'd consider the 50mm F1.8 for less than €100 ....

Is that a suggestion for purchase or an offer to sell Simon? Oh and good to see you back :D
