Anyone going to Roskilde this year? I was there last year and it was amazing, especially Roger Waters and Sigur Ros. I'm fairly doubtful about this year because the line up (so far) is fairly similar to the likes of Glastonbury (Rumours) which I've already got tickets for and the flights to Copenhagen are €170 :(

    Fly with Ryanair to Denmark.

Yea I saw that actually they fly to somewhere called Billund but the flights are more expensive than with SAS who we flew with last time and our quoting €170 direct to Copenhagen which is closer. Also Ryanair are offering no flights to Malmo at that time either. Just not sure I even want to go. You really have to go on the Sunday it opens to get anywhere near the festival site. We went Tuesday last time and ended up in the furthest camp away but don't get me wrong the festival in 2006 was one of the best I ever been to :)

This is confusing. Can someone explain how many days it is spread over?

    And where to buy tickets?

Its 7 days long with the campsite opening on the Sunday so everyone can get in and get their stuff set up and then the music starting on the Thursday through till the next Sunday. You cant get into the main festival area from the Sunday but there is stuff going on in the campsite for them few days before the festival.

You can get tickets from here

i believe its actually 8 days long - however its not 8 days of gigs - just 8 days of madness :-)

Makes you feel kind of crap when you think about our Irish equivalent

I went last year and it completely changed my outlook on music festivals. I just bought my eleccie piccie ticket today because the lineup is amazing, its a great atmosphere (not like Oxyge* bollox) and it's in Laois (the most beautiful place in the world) but I'm hoping to book my Roskilde tickets and flights in the next 2 weeks.
What a great time. They have a man-made lake in the campsite! They have beautiful Scandinavians!! They always have a great lineup. You can go on the website and put in requests for bands you wanna see at Roskilde for feck's sake!!!

I better stop talking about it ... i just get so excited thinking about it.

    :D

Definitely. It's a holiday and a music festival and a real coming together of like-minded ppl. Plus they had a really cool bar with sand on the ground and people playing all kinds of random music on stage.
And the recycling thing is quality too => if you return your bottles (yes, that's glass bottles that Europeans are allowed to have at festivals because they don't end up smashed over your head), you get money back for recycling which means you're saving money and the place is kept reasonably clean. I love it.

Hey, I just booked flights and tickets for this years Roskilde Festival.

Has anyone been there before and what do you make of it. I've been chatting to a few danish people who say it's wicked but I guessing there biased.

I went last year. Its a really fun festival and pretty much unlike any of the Irish ones. Firstly its huge with a very spread out campsite (there are Danish laws regards amounts of tents that can be in the same place). Its got a campsite/arena setup so its different to Glastonbury in that respect and they dont let you bring sealed containers or glass into the Arena. Theres lots of different stages (all of them except the main one are in tents). Sound is excellent in all of them (as the Pearl Jam incident in 2000 was partly due to bad sound).

In the campsites theres a very cool atmosphere which varies from party 24hrs in some parts to a general friendly chitchat in others. Pretty much everyone speaks English as theres a huge mix of people from all over Europe and its used as a common language. The campsites are broken down into different Agoras which come with a different theme in each. One of which is a lake you can swim in and another which has fishing etc. Theres two major camping villages one either side of the train tracks which have excellent food and a tuborg sales point where you can get a crate of Tuborg in bottles for about 15euro.

Bad points would be its very very dirty, not helped by being in the middle of a quarry and people pissing EVERYWHERE. Also its quite expensive. Beer and food is on par with an Irish festival. Try stock up when you are in Copenhaagen / Roskilde village. Also the size of it does mean you'll be doing a lot of walking

Went over with Toast last year too,
Absoloutely mind blowing, 6 days of madness and mayhem!
I didnt find the place too dirty but there is people pissing everywhere so dont camp anywhere near a fence.

Id suggest getting there on the Sunday if you can as we got there on the Tuesday and it took us nearly 4 hours to find somewhere to camp!

Also there last year and echo's people's comments about people pissing everywhere. Great fun was had, I camped in the K part of the site which was a good distance away but quality nonetheless.

    Off to Glasto this year.

I'm looking forward to it alright, there seems to be a good vibe around it from everyone I've talked to. Do the campsites really fill up that quickly, were not headin over until the wed, about 14 in total I think. We had planned hittin copenhagen that night but from the stories I'm hearin about camping were thinkin of goin straight there and pitching our tents. Do you know if its possibly to then leave d campsite and head back to copenhagen for d night. Its supposed to be a deadly city. I also hear there's secure lookups where you can leave bags, passport etc. Is it true???

Its possible but my advice is to forget Copenhaagen. You dont really have enough time to do everything. Arriving on the Wednesday by the time you get to Roskilde, setup and get a feel for the place it will already be getting late. Also forget trying to find a place for all 14 of you in the same area on the wednesday. Bring small tents.. preferably popups and head straight for campsite K and just squeeze in anywhere you can.

I think we've resigned ourselves to the fact that copenhagen is a no go but I'm gonna cling onto the hope that we'll all get to camp close together.

Whats d story with campsite K

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

Its the biggest and furthest away so the most likely to still have space.

Yep went last year myself too, amazing festival. Like the lads have already said head straight for campsite K!!! Your just wasting your time otherwise. Went Tuesday evening last year with the intention of going straight to Roskilde pitching our tents and then heading to copenhagen for a night on the p*ss. Didnt work out that way at all, by the time we found a free campsite and got our tents up it was nearly 2am. The reality is 90% of people are queuing to get in on the Sunday morning so everywhere except the big K campsite fills up straight away.

Heres a pic of the mainstage I took, think it was Morrisey playing at the time.

The atmosphere in the campsites was really good and we got talking to loads of people, this crazy Norwegian guy liked blowing fireballs? It looked amazing but the stewards didnt like it and were straight over to us, no fires allowed ;)

Really wish I was going this year but between Glastonbury and Electric Picnic I can't afford it :(

    Have fun :D

Hey guys, I booked a ticket a while ago on a web site, www.londonticketmarket.com, turns out that this is a dodgy site so I may have to cancel my order. my CC hasnt yet been charged, but there's no sign of the tickets...

I have my fligts, my mate has a ticket but I dont - does anybody have a spare one? I'm willing to pay a bit extra...

Also, anyone there last year, are there any touts outside? Is there any chance of me getting a ticket at this stage?

Threads merged.. Murfito, I think you should check ebay.. prices may be steep, but touts at the event will likely charge a hella lot more. This board isn't for selling or exchanging tickets, I'll leave your post intact for the moment though but if this thread goes that direction I'll have to remove it.

    Strange,
was reading this thread today and seen mention of the tradegy in 2000 while I was listening to Patti Smith covering 'Alive' in 2001 (a terrible, but unbelievably emotional cover I might add) to mark a year of the tradegy and then there is now another possible tradegy involving Pearl Jam yet again, this time at a festival in Italy. They were to be headliners and no band was on stage at the time but freak weather caused some of the towers to fall and people are hurt, but from what I heard, no deaths thankfully. Hopefully everyone is ok
