Ryanair:Fishing Rod as Hand Luggage?

I am heading off to Sardinia on Ryanair soon and want to bring me fishing rod along, I was wondering if anyone knows whether this can be taken as hand luggage aboard Ryanair? The rod can be taken apart into two pieces which would be about 3.5 - 4 foot long. Has anyone experience with taking such an item as hand luggage, are you charged extra etc?

I know I could ring Ryanair about this but I have had bad experience calling their expensive support phone lines.

Many thanks in advance for any advice,
    jAH

I'm not even sure you can bring rods on board.

You may have to check it in, at a charge..but yes, your best bet is to ring Ryanair themselves.

You could probably rent one wherever you go. :)

Get yourself a telescopic rod.. should easily fold down and fit into
your checked in luggage. I've one that folds down to about 2 feet.

Lidl had some on special last week.. might be worth checking the stores
as last weeks specials on www.lidl.ie are now replaced with this weeks.

Argos are showing similar telescopic rods

thanks 4 the suggestions. I may borrow a telescopic rod from a friend although I find these rods are pretty flimsy usually.. renting a decent rod might be the best option alrite.

thanks to all for your input
