I need to know, well, pretty much everything there is to know about them!

Have you ever been to one?
    Is it expensive?
What did you think? Would you recommend it?
Do you have dates for this year's Open Track Days?
Do you need to do something special insurance-wise before going?
Would I look stupid going there with a Suzuki Bandit (I bet you they all have R1's and Hayabusa's there...)?
Anybody going to one soon so I can tag along?

Any info (or answer's to the above) will be greatly appreciated! :)

See here for the mondello website.

I am going to go to one of the next ones.

The Open days are for any bike (ie race bikes are allowed) and Road days are only for road legal bikes.

If you were to pick one for a start, I would do Road.

If you were hesitant, I would go for the track training days

    Price wise:
Single Day Price (morning & afternoon sessions): €175.00
    Half Day Price (morning): €95.00
    Half Day Price (afternoon): €110.00

Any one that I know of who has done them says "do the full day - you only end up raging that you didn't book it when you are there for a half day".

The training days cost a bit more (I think €250, but you get lunch and a €50 trackday voucher when you complete the course).

They are outside your insurance, so you don't have to declare it, and as for the bike, you can go on anything. Check out the photo galleries on ibf or biker.ie for some track day pics - you will see that every type bike is there.

I will be going soon (road only) so probably may 02 depending on bookings.

    L.

Thanks for the info lads! I'm really looking forward to doing something like that! :D

    However:
    REGISTRATION
Everyone attending must present a current, full, road licence for the type of motorcycle they are riding, a Mondello Park Track Day Licence or a MCUI short circuit licence at each and every trackday they attend.
So I have to do the course before I can go to Open Track Days?

    Read it again.

    you need either:

a current, full, road licence for the type of motorcycle they are riding

    or

a Mondello Park Track Day Licence

    or

    a MCUI short circuit licence

I guess if you are within the 2 year restriction period you have to have the "correct" bhp bike too.

No they dont worry about that just as long as it is a full licence/race licence/or trackday licence from mondello.

First time out I would do half day its very tiring. Bring plenty of fluids and snacks and have a good breakfast its a long day. If you feel tired dont be afraid to skip a session or finish up early its better than going to naas or wrecking your bike.

There is no snobbery over what bike you ride nobody will look down on ya for riding a bandit I've seen plenty of them out.

Trackdays are the best fun you can have on a bike. I dont own a road bike I use a friends bike solely for trackdays.

Thank you for your post Flankerb! ;)

Seems like a really fun thing to do alright! On a nice day like today for example I'm sure it's a blast!

I think I'm going to give them a ring to clear up this "race licence / trackday licence" business though...

What about tyres? Am I better off going with tyres reaching the end of their life to "finish them off" (still in good condition of course - just not new) or should I go with brand new tyres?

Obviously new tyres will give me a lot more grip but I don't think I'm at the riding level where tyres are that important. But I'm still thinking I should go with new tyres to be safe...?

dont go to the track with bad tires. thats the one place you will be able to really test what your bike and its tires can do.
mondello is all corners . coters will be there so you can buy a decent track or road tire up there.
give it a go. you will be addicted
