what venues for the bigger bands left this summer

Was just wondering where some of the bands that havent been announced for Ireland are going to play this summer. What venues are left.
The Bands in Question are smashing pumpkins, pearl jam, white stripes, NIN. All these bands are touring europe but seam to have bypassed the bigger venues that would suit them here

Electric picnic has its headliners... was hoping for one of the above for EP
Point.. under construction for the summer
RDS.. A bit small but a possibillity

The point is the venues for such bands is running out ??? and promoters are hardly going to over look such crowd pullers. But where do they stage them. Hope its not a situation where they start inventing venues for big names(ie a certian castle artic monkeys = more money for promoters if more big name bands are spread across more venues= us paying more for gigs that are expensive as it is.)Sadly i think it could come to this tho.

Might just search for a ticket to Nova rocks Or Rock AM and get 2 or three of these acts in. Has any one tried this???

What do you mean by inventing new venues? Have you ever been to this certain castle, it's a brilliant venue?!?

I dont think either big festival has finished anouncing yet. They usually introduce big bands for the final push on tickets.. happened last year with EP

ardgillan might be on the cards, in 05 the agreement with the co. co. was 4 years with 2 gigs per year over a 5 year time period, and it wasnt used last year

sorry i didnt intend to complain about the venue. its more the fact that big name bands seam to be spread over a bunch of venues.

like 5 big bands at 5 different venues each ticket for each gig 62.50 x couple of thousand people = big money

But in euorpe the pumpkins. stripes, artics and pearl jam (only taking these bands as example of bands touring this summer) same bill 130/140quid tickets. promoters here are greedy. which is bad for the concert goes + the fact that ticket prices here are high any way.

Dont think Pearl Jam are even coming here anyway, as for Pumpkins, I wouldnt be surprised to see them at Marlay or the Point, maybe even outdoor RDS. And I dont think the Point is gonna start re-developing till Autumn, so its more the winter I'd be wondering about venues. NIN were supposed to play, but have no idea what happened or if they just announced to early so had to take it down from their site. If the bands are to play, there are enough outdoor venues anyway, so dont be too concerned. I'd be more concerned about them even coming here in the first place...well, mainly Smashing Pumpkins.

The Point will be closing 30th June I believe

Last I heard, The Point is due to close in late summer, and will be closed for a while......?

The only indoor venue of decent size left, is the RDS Main Arena:eek:! Haven't been in it for years, heard it's a s**thole.....?

The Point is looooooooooooooooooooooooong overdue an overhaul. Hopefully it will be a decent venue when it's finished......?

The area around the Point, this Point Village thing, got the last bit of planning permission about 2 weeks ago. The Point itself is going to be a 15,000-seater, theatre style thing. As in, loads of storys rising up at the back, with some floor space at the front. I read this in the same article, so as far as I remember, thats where I'm getting the Autumn/Winter closing time, around October I think.

As for the RDS, yes, it is awful(even said so in the paper today, "probably the worst large indoor venue in the country" to be exact).

don't think it is because there is an event taking place there in july.

we've been told numerous things about venues closing for renovations early to middle of this year and it's turned out to be very premature.......

RDS - supposed to be closed for the summer, not the case, gigs there in June and start of July......

Point - supposed to be closing next month, no sign of it happening, end Sept being latest I heard too.......it's a major renovation so will be closed for God knows how long

TBMC - supposed to be closing for major renovations but gigs keep getting booked for there (I know it's a smaller venue but something odd happening)

as for the RDS, well there are three venues in the RDS, the Arena (awful sound generally, if the wind blows you are screwed)
Simmonscourt (bad sound again, but it's bigger than the Point isn't it ???) not used very often, probably should get more use......
Main Hall - worst of the lot, abismal sound, always bad, again not used that often......

I don't know what's happening with Ardgillan - there was a cock up with the planning last year, don't know what the excuse is this year but I would have imagined that the gigs for the summer would be announced by now ??????

we really need a 4-5,000 seater venue and a one the size the new Point will be, but the need to work on the acoustics in the Point or it'll be twice as bad as before........

That was the announced closing date a few months ago, however they could probably skew it a few days for the event in question.

Or perhaps Mushy is right and they actually have pushed back the closure to the autumn. Damn things never get done on time here. :)

There's more info about The Point Village here. I really hope they do a nice job with the venue, something as good as Vicar Street would be fantastic.

wasnt planning, they booked david gray for the wrong date and had to pull it coz when they figured it out it was too late to switch permissions and he was booked
