Kojima on MGS4 Exclusivity

"The PS3 is like the theatre, it's a little bit high-priced but it has to be high quality as well. The 360 is a DVD, it still needs to be high quality but you need more variations, while the Wii is almost like a TV channel, because every game you have it with your family"
"But like I said, MGS4 is aimed for the movie theatre, it's aimed for the PS3, so the game's scenario and graphics need this theatre-type hardware. It's when a producer has a game that can work on the 'DVD level' that a game will go multiplatform"

    Source

Make of that what you will. I'd like to think it's true that he's really pushing the hardware capabilities and the capacity limits of the Blu Ray medium to make something special but time will tell.

MGS4 is like a movie, alright.Watching rather than playing. Give me Splinter Cell any day.

as comic book guy would say

    "worst quotes ever..."

Total non-sensical - probably badly interpreted Japanese.

Remeber he already said previously there was no reason why MGS4 could not be done on the 360 with very little graphical difference over each format.

Hideo Kojima may be important - but at the end of the day it's Konami that are holding the purse strings. If they decide the market does not have enough PS3's to warrant such an expensive product to reach it's financial potential - it will go multi-platform.

i would imagine kojima has Konami by the balls. he's on their board of directors, and decided himself to create a splinter company called Kojima productions, so that Konami gets no creative input on his work, allowing him to go off and do other work outside of MGS off his own back.

plus, if Konami started pushing him around, i'm sure there'd be plenty of other suitors willing to publish his work (Sony, for example).

I think if MGS4 were to make it to any other console, Sony would probably fight very hard (see pay large sums of money) to keep it exclusive for as long as possible.....

^ only problem is Sony doesnt seem to have that cash to throw around. Remember they continue to lose revenue, and last year had to borrow somthing like 750 million dollars from a Japanese bank.

Only time will tell either way.

in the first half of 2006 (i don't think they published end-of-year stats yet) sony reported a gain of $280million, with an increase in sales on bravia & digital cameras being the main reason for that (in 2005 sony reported a loss). the big hit came from SCE, reporting a loss of about $62million because of the money going into PS3 not being curtailed by PSP and PS2.

basically, sony itself is doing just fine, but the games division is losing out. same happened with PS2. too much money going out initially, but it's a long-term plan... microsoft are just coming out of the same thing. the only company that doesn't take a big hit on new technology early on is nintendo.

Kojima Productions aren't a splinter company but a developement team of Konami. Konami give Kojima a lot of freedom as they do with all their big producers. If konami want MGS4 to go multiformat it will go multiformat. However Kojima Productions won't be handling the port and make no mistake MGS4 is more than likely not in development for the xbox 360.

If it does go multiformat, which wouldn't surprise me, it would be handled by another Konami team or a green Kojima Productions team with only a supervisory role from the original team. Also don't expect it for well over a year after the original.

360 version of MGS4 according to Kojima..
    Is this a confirmation ?

Funny joke,of course, pulled from a US forum..

Be interesting to see Kojima back up his words regarding the Blu-ray necessity whenever the game shows up..........no doubt hours of codecs and cut-scenes will not appease anyone who isn't a fan ..
I'd go along with Retro is thinking a 360 version wouldn't show up for a long time after the PS3 one, if at all..
