Not much to go on, so in that vein i suggest you try each and see which you prefer to ride. Assuming the componentry is the same it'll come down to which bike feels best to you.

I'd a similar decision to make recently where I wanted a 1500 euro road bike.. I narrowed my choices down to a Trek 5000, Focus Cayo (http://www.wiggle.com) or Planet X (http://www.planet-x-bikes.com). The Planet X gets good reviews everywhere and the Focus Cayo won an award for "Best Bike under 1500 euro".

The disadvantage of the Planet X and Focus Cayo is that, unless you know someone who owns one, you won't be able to try before you buy as they're mail order.

I ended up going for the Planet X but I only paid for it yesterday so can't give ya my personal opinion on it yet. Should get it early next week.

I've attached a photo of what it looks like.

I know, but they did when marathonic was looking, see his thread here:

a lot of the uk shops had the 5000 for £1kGBP at the time, have a look around there might still be some available.

    ideas..

I got the allez expert but someone on the older thread got the trek.

I got it for 1kGBP for Dales by think they are all sold. The carbons at that price have lower spec groupsets, wheels, forks etc. So I went for it as a better value package in my opinion and prefer the smoothness of the ultegra over the 105 you would get on the carbon bikes at the same price. Also the aerotec E5 frame with carbon stays is very nice imo.

However it is all opinion and attitude really..

    Heres is the spec:

Frame Specialized E5-Aerotec aluminum w/FACT carbon seatstays
Fork Specialized FACT monocoque-carbon w/Zertz inserts
    Rims/Wheels Shimano Ultegra R600
    Tires Specialized Mondo Pro, 700 x 23c
    Crankset Shimano Ultegra
    Chainwheel 53/39
    Front Derailleur Shimano Ultegra
    Rear Derailleur Shimano Ultegra
Rear Cogs Shimano Ultegra, 10-speed: 12-27
    Shifters Shimano Ultegra STI
    Handlebars Specialized Pro aluminum, 31.8mm
Tape/Grips Specialized Body Geometry Bar Phat, cork ribbon
    Stem Specialized Pro-Set aluminum
    Brake Levers Shimano Ultegra
    Brakes Shimano Ultegra
    Saddle Specialized Body Geometry Alias
Seat Post Specialized Pavé FACT carbon w/Zertz insert

copacetic, going by that spec below you got a hell of a lot of bike for the money. In my experience anything with full Ultegra would cost a whole lot more.

Regarding aluminium, I had the chance of a De Rosa King at a very good, albeit still very expensive price, but decided against it and just upgraded my current alu bike. My rational was simply that one half decent fall on a rather swanky carbon frame could leave it irreparably f**ked.
