Would this be of any use? I havent used it since version 3.5 but was fairly solid back then.

C:\Documents and Settings\your_pc_account_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\your_msn_email_address\ObjectStore

copy files to your desktop or wherever and rename the .Dt2 files to .gif
