Hi, I know there are some TaeKwonDo clubs in Kilkenny (Three WTF Olympic/Full Contact style) and some Shotokan. There is also an ITF TKD club in Carlow town that I am involved in, i am a white belt and 25, so adults are welcome. There are several Wado Karate clubs in Carlow town too.

if you want any contact information for any of the above, give me a message

    Damian

    Hi,

Check out a guy called 'Kevin Shortall' he runs a large JKA Shotokan Karate Club in Kilkenny City. I have found a contact number for him - 086 3668669. He trains most nights per week, and is quite good by all accounts.

Oyama Karate. Is that a deviation of Kyokushin?

There is a good Kenpo Karate Club in KK run by 3rd Degree Black Belt, Kevin Hendrick. He teaches all age groups and I think he teaches in 2 different locations in KK on different nights.
Log on to www.kenpokarate.ie for details.

    Regards

Oyama Karate come from Kyokushin thats right.

Oyama Karate is a classic, full-contact, Japanese style of Karate.
''In 1965, Mas Oyama, Director of the International Kyokushin Organization, sent his chief instructor, Soshu Shigeru Oyama, from Tokyo international headquarters to New York to spread Kyokushin Karate worldwide. Then in 1972, Mas Oyama sent another of his Kyokushin chief instructors from Tokyo, Soshi - Saiko Shihan Yasuhiko Oyama (brother of Soshu Shigeru Oyama), to Birmingham, AL to expand the growth of the Kyokushin style world wide.

In 1985, the World Oyama Karate Organization was founded as an independent organization. It was directed by Founder Soshu Shigeru Oyama, and Founder Soshi - Saiko Shihan Yasuhiko Oyama.(...)

Thanks Jack. My very first MA was Kyokushin so it would be nice for me to continue it [alebit indirectly] here. I wasn't sure how much of an offshoot it is because there was alot [and I mean ALOT] of confusion after Mas Oyama's death. All the splinter orgs didn't help either.

    Thanks again Jack.

John I was just about to Pm you as someone had pointed out the Oyama site to me just recently and I knew you would be interested - good to see you already heard about it.

Thanks anyway OldBloke. I emailed Sensei Yvette about adult classes and she said she is considering adding them [and self defense classes for ladies in case any ladies on here are interested] after the Christmas and New Year holidays. I inquired about adult classes at the Watershed too. Good to let the gym staff know that their is interest.

Basically at the start of the month she mailed us all our grading certificates and enclosed a letter saying that she is returning to Poland for "personal reasons" (which could mean anything)

Thats a shame, I was planning to have a look at the classes, to see if, I like to join.

I'm sorry to disappoint you Earthday. I think you would have enjoyed it. She said she'll keep in touch so if it means she returns and resumes classes I'll pass it along to you.

Just wanted to pass along that despite sending us letters last Sept stating that she was returning to Poland she has actually been back since last December. I knew beforehand because I had been seeing her around town. I'm not sure if she plans to reopen the club and at this point I'm not sure if I care.
