    Hey,

Im going to be takeing the AM theory test but havnt yet decided wether im going for an A1(motorbike) or M(Moped)(im turning 16 so these are the only licenses i can apply for) and i was wondering is there any website i can look at to check out different bikes and mopeds and maybe if i get an idea of the price i will decide. But you see i can only get a Motorbike with 125cc and 11bhp which isnt much. Can anyone give me any advice on which license to go for?

    Thanks

I hate to disappoint but I'm afraid you are restricted to 50cc for another year.

Have a look at this link http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/travel-and-recreation/motoring-1/driver-licensing/provisional_motorcycle_driving_licences_in_ireland/?searchterm=motorcycle

That should be able to answer any questions you have about licences.

and then after that, with a dublin address, it wont be the licensing restricting you, it'll be the bastard insurance companies :(

    It says on that site

"Category M licences are awarded automatically if you have a full driving licence to drive a car (Category B). If you do not have a full driving licence for Category B, you cannot apply for a provisional motorcycle licence for Category M."

Does that mean that if i dont have a full drivers license i cant apply for a provisional moped license?

No he's not, he can get an A1 licence (up to 125cc) at age 16.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Ninja900's right. You can ride 125 when you're 16, unless things have changed in recent years, which i dont think they have...
I know i was riding (and insured on) 125s when i was 16

@ Skating dragon: You can apply for both dude, that's what i did anyway, i did one theory test, and applied for provisional M, A1 and W (Tractor). It worked, but that was years ago so might have changed but i'm almost positive you can still do that.

I stand corrected, didn't bother reading my own link properly

Insurance for a 16 year old on a 125 would be a killer though.

That has to be a mistake. It doesn't make sense

    I'm sure it should read:

"If you do hold a full licence in category B, you can't apply for a provisional license in category M".

Ummm... you might want to re-read that statement. What it means is that, an M license is give to you if you have a full B License. But if you dont have a full B, you can not get an M. You are only able to get a A1 or A prov. But at 16 he is only aloud a A1. A and B (thus including M) are restricted for people 18+... or is that 17? I can never member.
