Does anyone have a TiVo working in Ireland and if so how comparable is it to the Sky+ box ?

According to the TiVo UK Website the service is not available to ROI.

Also - where is the best place to buy a new one (other than ebay) ?

I have had it working. Other people do.

It is an Analogue input recorder and only just as good as a "DVD Recorder" at highest setting of quality. Poor quality compared to Sky+ which simply plays an exact copy of the live signal.

You either like Tivo or hate it.

Sky+ is integrated to the Sky EPG so is good in that respect. The only disadvantages of Sky+ are:
    1) Only plays what you have a current sub for.
    2) Only records if you have a Sky+ or full sub.
    3) Won't record other Channels (UTV, BBC3 etc).

There are much better alternatives than Tivo's aging technology. You need a telephone or broadband connection and monthly or life Tivo subscription or else it is pointless.

If you don't want Sky+ buy a good modern DVD/HDD combo PVR instead. Or A dreambox.

Why is it risky to discuss those boxes are they illegal? I never heard that a dreambox was illegal. Why do you have to be so obtuse?

To connect a euromax box as mentioned in post 3 would be against any cable companies rules. You can only use equipment supplied by the cable company.

Well thats not quite illegal. Its like saying a video record is illegal it how its used that makes it questionable re copyright law.

Receiving pay tv channels without paying a subscription to the provider is illegal.
