Holy crap indeed... What do all those gizmos do?

I have no idea what the majority of them do, apparently they are moog's or something like that.

I could only spot the boss DS2, a line 6 mm4, a wah wah pedal and volume control all of which I use myself plus some others...

I've never heard anything on a RHCP album or live that, to my ears, would require more than an OD, wah and phaser...

Then your not listening hard enough...
He uses chorus, to name but one other effect, all the time e.g outro on Under the Bridge, Dani California verse parts....

Theres a documentary on youtube of him, one bit shows him in front of this enormous "filtering" device.
It looked like a massive computer from the 50's. He looked like a mad scientist complete with spectacles in front of it explaining how it works.

    More info below -

Guitars ’55 and ’62 Fender Stratocasters; ’69 Les Paul Custom; Martin 0-15.

Amps Marshall Major and Silver Jubilee heads. Marshall 4x12 cabinets with stock Celestions.

Effects Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble, DS-1 Distortion, DS-2 Turbo Distortion; Electro-Harmonix English Muff’n fuzz, Holy Grail Reverb, Big Muff Pi fuzz, POG Polyphonic Octave Generator, Electric Mistress Flanger; DOD 680 Analog Delay; Moog MF-105 MuRF, MF-105B Bass MuRF, MF-101 Low-Pass Filter, MF-103 Phaser; Ibanez WH-10 Wah; Dunlop DB-02 Dime Custom CryBaby.

    Strings D’Addario .010-.046.

Track by track rundown on what he did on each song on stadium arcadium - http://www.guitarplayer.com/story.asp?sectioncode=17&storycode=15789

Ah, well, you know what I meant! I meant I've never heard anything that would justify a board that size... Still, I'm not familiar with much of their very early stuff, so perhaps he needs things for once-off effects...

He used to only have about 5 pedals a few years ago. That is damn complicated. Obviously they are not all on at the same time!:D

Yeah, I know, I wasnt having a go or anything.

He has 2 wah pedals on there, not sure why...
Lots of other crazy filters and modulators... pretty impressive though...

Its some kind of vintage filter that he started playing around with.
He uses the mooger yokey bobs now though to generate the same sounds live but he uses this thing in the studio....

    Mad yoke isnt it?
Imagine telling the missus "Yeah, im just going to waltons to pick something up for the guitar" and coming home with that...

In work, so can't see the video, but I'm almost certainly he uses a modular system of some description (Doepfer?) and runs the guitar signal through the LFOs and filters and what not.

The pedals affectionately referred to as "gizmos" :) are Moogerfoogers, made by the late Bob Moog of synthesiser and theremin fame. Off the top of my head he uses their phasers and delays - which are seriously boutique analog pieces of gear - thomann stock them, they run at over 400 euro a pop if I remember correctly.

    Correctamundo on all counts...
I have been researching these things over the last few days...
