Pc unresponsive while burning CD/DVD

    Since i got the c2d systm, whenever I burn a CD or DVD my system gets raped! I was blaming nero but i tried cdBurnerxp and I have the same problem...

    The task manager, shows 100% cpu utilization on 1 core, but the actual process is utilizing little or no cpu?

    This never hapened on my last PC, and even when i am converting video, heavily loading both cores, My pc is fine and very responsive :/

    Any ideas? is it a problem with my DVD drive?

    The task manager will show what processes are using cpu utilisation, as you know. Click on the utilisation column and it will sort utilisation in ascending/decending order. You should see what processes are contributing to the overall utilisation and what the top user is.

    Yup, I did that, and the actual program nero / cdburnerxp is using 2-3% CPU

    But, in the performance tab, 1 core is being maxed out? There is obviously something very wrong :(

    Check that your IDE channels are set to DMA rather than PIO. You could also have a look at installing ASPI driver and see if that helps.
