    Mayo Power lodges planning permission
    Friday, 30 March 2007 17:31
Mayo Power has lodged its application for planning permission for Ireland's latest power station with Mayo County Council.

Mayo Power plans to build the €140m electricity generating plant in North Mayo. The plant, which will produce 100 megawatts of energy, is expected to provide 350 jobs during construction and up to 80 full-time jobs during operation.

The plant will use a mix of peat, woodchips and a small amount of coal as feedstock to generate enough power to meet the demand of Mayo, it said.

AdvertisementLast October Mayo Power, which is owned by Rockland Mayo Holding Company (a UK and US consortium) and businessman Myles Staunton, expressed its intention to build the plant.

Do you mean Bellacorick? It's closed, and they're talking about demolishing the cooling tower.
