Converting x-vid files?

Hi folks,

I've googled it but can't really find a solution. I'm looking for a programme that can convert xvid files so I can burn them using toast or even convert xvid to avi.

Anybody know?

I can burn xvid movies in toast. Maybe i'm completely wrong, but is xvid not a codec/encoder, as opposed to a file type? I thought all my divx/xvid movies were avi files. Can you watch them on your mac in quicktime? If not, you may just need the divx codecs.

failsafe is right. xvid is just the codec, which is based on MPEG4. avi is just a container. When you burn them off what do you want to do with them? Watch on a DVD player ?

If you just want to play them you can use VLC

I downloaded the Xvid codec and tried to burn an avi to DVD, but it still toast still complained about not being able to find a codec.

Thanks for the replies. Yes you're 100% correct, x-vid is only the codec, so apologies there.

The files once downloaded are .r files and are numbered sequentially thoughout eg. r.00,r.01. r.02, etc. However I can't seem to open these files at all Macpar is no joy, nor Divx converter:( If I drag these files into toast, you guessed it, that doesn't recognize them either.

So this is where I could do with a hand, if anybody can.

those are sequential rar files which are a type of archive file.

Just get this - does the job fine

bar goes right across looks like it's hanging but just be patient.

Drag resulting file into Toast window.

or another option is UnRarX... thats what i use to extract the .r files. then i use toast to burn the resultant files.

that's what I do, works perfectly! Just double click on the file with the ending .rar and it will expand all the other files with the .r0, .r1 file endings.

I'm currently using UnrarX and dropping the converted files into Toast & they seem to be working fine.
