creating private game on an online poker site to play against mates

Hi there - i am wondering is it possible for me to create a private game on an online poker website to play against my mates. I came across this past thread on boards:

    http://snipurl.com/1es11

it seems someone else was looking to do exactly the same thing a year ago. I joined the site mentioned (well, holdempoker.com is now pokerroom.com); however, my situation is some of my mates live in the same house and therefore would be connecting to the net over a shared internet connection, so when they try to join the table one of them gets in OK but the other gets a message about not being able to join due to that IP already being at the table. I also tried PKR.com and came across the same problem.

I can see why this would be stopped at a table with real money, but the site also stops it at a private, locked table with only play money being used.

has anyone come across this before, or does anyone have any suggestions for me? (other than all sitting down at a table in the real world LOL)

    Thanks in advance

Hmm, bummer, I know it seems simpler to just pop around to someones house and play in real life but some of my mates are on New Zealand and stuff and i just thought it would be cool to play online against them.

I get what you are saying about collusion, thats why i did acknowledge that I can of course see why this would not be allowed with real money, or even at an open table, but i just kinda hoped at a private table, locked only to people who are invited or whatever, that it might be allowed. Surely I cant be the only person who ever tried this?

thanks for the feedback anyway folks.

Pokerstars members that meet criteria (think you need to earn a certain amount of frequent player points - but not 100% sure) can set up private MTT games - you decide on the buy ins and give the password to as little or many people you want to. I think that would be your best bet

Cool thanks for that, i'll have a look now. However, just had a scout around for prima, it doesnt seem to be a poker website, rather a network of various poker websites, would this be correct? Sorry for the noob questions I have never looked at online poker before ...

The terrible, terrible site, Irish Eyes Poker, allows multiple people on the same IP to play in tourneys.

try http://www.anonymizer.com/, this should hide your buddies ip address, otherwise just do a google on hidin ip address!!

Let me know if it works as this would be very very interesting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phew! I have spent a lot more time on this than I intended, I was kinda hoping that there would be a site that would easily and simply allow me to do what I wanted to (create a private room for play money, and lock it); it appears this is not the case.

I had a look at the prima sites (checked out a few of them anyway), they allow you to create your own free private tables, but they charge a tenner for them. Irish Poker Eyes probably do allow people on the same IP to play in tourneys but that’s not what I am looking for, I was hoping to create my own private table and lock it with only my mates in it, and I don’t see how to do this on their site. As for pokerstars, I couldn’t see how to create a private table, but then again I don’t have any frequent player points so maybe that’s why. I’d rather not go with hiding my IP, I would assume any poker website worth its salt would have some method of prevention or detecting this and I’d rather not get banned or violate any site rules, plus I suppose it does seem a bit more trouble than its worth.

Ah well, maybe the good ol ‘sit around a table in the real world’ idea is the best one after all. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions anyway, much appreciated.

Have a look at the poker servers at http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&words=poker+server there might be something of use to you.
