Just watched this last night, best movie I've seen in an age (I'm hard to please).

I don't recall watching Judi Dench before (she does a lot of small parts?), though of course I know who she is, I thought she was amazing in this (oscar nominated).

Cate Blanchett was very good too, also oscar nominated.

Anyone else seen this movie? What did ye reckon?

    :)

Couldn't agree more, I went to see this the day before the oscars just to see if Dench should get the award ahead of Helen Mirren who was great in The Queen. It is such a great film, after seeing Notes on a Scandal i won't be able to watch Judi Dench in As Time Goes By ever again.
I loved every part of this movie if Helen Mirren wasn't playing royalty Dench would most definitely have won the oscar

I haven't seen The Queen, is it any use?

Dench was amazing in this movie, makes you forget your watching a movie and not a documentary :)

Its deffinitely worth giving the queen a watch the blairs and the queen mother are the best characters in it, very clever script but i think Mirren wouldn't have gotten the oscar had she been playing a normal person. I haven't seen Penelope Cruz in Volver yet but Dench should have got the nod from the academy.

Def agree. cannot understand how Mirren got the Oscar but then again them awards are a joke anyway.

    P. Cruz was better than her too. Volver is a good movie.
