    Hi,
My dad is thinking of getting either a nuvi 660 or a 680.. We were in halfords today and one lad says it has a 4gb HD and another said it was 2gb.. what size is it if it does actually have one?? Cause I was just in the garmin site there and didn't see anything about a hard drive.

And, in general, what do you guys think of the Nuvi ?? Is it a good one??

    Thanks.

I bought the nuvi 300 a year ago . It had the Navtech version 8 maps on it which I upgraded to v's 9 with all of europe. I have 2 GB SD card in it . If you upgrade you have to transfer maps from an update dvd. You can select what areas you want to update by clicking and shading. Be warned that if you only partially update and go back to select another area it overwrites your previous selection. To overcome this you just reselect and transfer again. It is probabley easier to do it all in one go- depends on the size of your sd card and where you intend to travel .

If I was rebuying I would probabley only buy the 310 with bluetooth. I suppose it depends how much traveling you do. The only downside I have come across is some missing info such as the new ashbourne bypass ( I ,m not sure how Navtech time updates.
Other than that I think the Nuvi is a great product - the fact it fits in your shirt pocket is also a plus

AFAIK, it doesn't have a Hard Drive in there, it has Flash Memory. I've 3 360's sitting on my desk, one's mine, one's herself's, and one's the Mother's. I love the Nuvi interface, and form factor, couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Get the latest firmware when you buy it too, firmware for the 360 has enhanced the Bluetooth functions (It can now speak texts when my phone gets one), and improves a lot of small niggling problems too. I'd imagine it's the same for the 6xx series.

The 660 has 2GB memory in it. I doubt it's a hard drive though.

As far as I know the Nuvi range only takes a 2GB Sd card - I haven't seen any with a bigger one advertised . No hard drives!

Yes, my bad..obviously flash if there's memory inside..
Is it easy to upgrade the firmware if I don't get it with the latest version already on it?

This sounds like such a cool gadget can't wait :)

The Nuvi 660 has 2GB memory preloaded with Full European mapping. V9 is the latest version that is preloaded. It as approx 220MB free for adding additional maps. As mentioned already, you can also add additional space for maps, mp3, photos etc. via the SD expansion slot. I have seen forums with people using the larger 4GB cards with no problems so I think this is the maximum size that has proven to be compatible.

The 660 is a fantasic GPS with a large screen. It is also a superb speakphone used in conjunction with a bluetooth phone. On certain phones, you can view all your contacts lists on your Nuvi and missed, dialed numbers as well. It is also very loud so no problems listening or speaking as the mic is very sensitive. I recommend this device to anyone looking for a decent and fast GPS.

Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about the mp3 playback? I was looking on garmin.com and it says that the FM Transmitter is only available in the U.S, Australia and New Zealand. So does that mean that you'd have to listen to mp3's through the built in speakers? and if so what would the sound quality be like? or is there any other way to have the sound play though your car stereo? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yes I was wondering about the FM transmitter..
If you were into doing A little DIY and it was possible with your radio..you could bring a line in extension from the back of your head unit and have it coming out somewhere that wouldn't be seen.. then just plug in a 3.5mm extension cable and plug the other end into the nuvi... this way when your not using the GPS there would be no wires around the place..
Anybody get what i'm talking about here??
