Wii Points vs Nintendo Stars

    Hi,

    New to Nintendo in general so go easy :)

    What's the difference between Wii Points and Nintendo Stars?

    I was under the impression that I'd get a bunch of Wii Points for registering the console and any game I bought - which I could subsequently use in the Wii Shop Channel to buy other games for the Virtual Console, etc.

    However, after registering on nintendovip.com, it seems that these are in fact Nintendo Stars, with which you can only buy gay stuff like ringtones.

    So is the only way to get Wii Points to buy a Wii Points Card or with a credit card from the Shop Channel?
