Why Season 5 was a big let down to me (Spoilers within)

Ok having bought the boxsets and watched them pretty much back to back for the last couple of weeks, I have to say that Season 5 was a major letdown to me, let me explain.

Over the other 4 seasons we got to know and build a strong liking to some of the major charectors in the show, Tony, Michelle, David Palmer and to a lesser degree Edgar, they made me really connect with the show. Some say Season 4 was rubbish, and I agree that it started off pretty poorly with all the new faces in CTU etc, but it came good when it started bringing back in all the main players from the previous season, I punched the air when Tony came in to save Jack and Audrey, and the same when David Palmer was brought back in as was Michelle.

Jump forward to first episode of Season 5 and they go off and Kill David Palmer and Michelle, then halfway through they kill off Tony and Edgar, this to me was a major mistake, ok I could live without Edgar and to a lesser degree Michelle, but Tony and David Palmer big mistake :(

The result of which had me less involved emotionally with this season. They could have kept Tony alive at least. As would have liked to see Tony pissed off and turn into a Jack like charecter in future seasons.

So I finished watching it last night and it just felt like the run-of-the-mill action movie.

Bringing Kim back was also a waste of time, didn't see the point.

I do hope they don't kill off Bill Buchanan, chloe or Mike Novak in the next series.

So thats my input in season 5, in a word dissappointing.

    Snake ;)

P.S. Season 5 DVD had the best extras of the dvd''s had a good section interviewing the actors, interesting to here that the bloke who plays Mike Novak is actually a Folk singer who has a couple of CD's. Chloe did standup comedy before the show, Aaron does lecturing around the country on Speaking in public. Tony does a lot of writing. Charles Logan has his ears pierced and has loads of tatoos.
Also nice montage on the first 100 episodes of 24

Season 5 was debatable the best season so far, with season 2 being its only contender. Season four was uneven at best, Season 3 ran out of steam at the end. Season 1 had the "What the F*ck is this?" factor but it actually doesn't make much sense if you watch it as a whole.

It was time to kill David and Tony etc. Tony and David, in particular, had been brought several times and there was no where really to go with the characters. Using David as an advisor to Logan in season 4 was pushing the boat out, to say the least. There was no where to go with the ex president and the twist in killing him off was unexpected and setup a great premise for Day 5.

24 looked a bit stale after season four. Several ideas and character dilemas had been rehased over and over. Killing Michelle and Tony sent the message out that all bets were off for this season.

Surely the last few episodes of Day 5 were some of the best the show has ever done. Highlights include the revelation of Logan as a villain. Picture him him standing in the shadows palming silver coin as if he were making a deal with the devil.

The president debating killing himself was 24 realtime superbly done. Who can forget Aaron telling "Charles" to goto hell after being beaten to a pulp. There was great a great scene too from Martha in the final episode where she tricks Logan into revealing himself.

Day 5 won several Emmys and rightfully so. Great acting and consistent plotting.

Sorry can't agree with you there, killing off the strongest charecters made season 5 weaker, and also at the end of Season 5, it just made me think is Jack thick? A chinese CTU bloke comes up and says you've got a call from Kim in the warehouse??? For such a paranoid/Careful charecter, it was really poor writing, they would have been better going for having him handed over to the Chinese by secret service or something to avoid problems with the chinese. Anyway in my eyes weakest/emotionless season so far.

Nah, I thought, whatever about the rest, Palmer's introduction into s4 was really poorly done. Oh, the pres's a bit sh1t, LETS GET PALMER! Pfft.

In fact, s4's probably the only season that I forget most of it now. It was that bad. I remember Tony being down and out for one episode, then back in the line of duty the next.

The only major problem I had with s5 was how Bierko escaped so easily. I thought that was a bit poorly done. Apart from that, it was a brilliant season...

Season 5 was regarded as a "return to form" only because season 4 was ****e. There was too much screen time devoted to Logan and his bonkers missus for my liking. It just got boring after a while.

S5 is immense. That is all!

Well maybe its just me then I watched them back to back on dvd, sometimes watching 4 episodes at a time, if I was watching them 1 episode per week like most here I might have a different opinion. I'll probably wait until Season 6 hits DVD, before watching it, I do hope I enjoy it more then Season 5.
Anyway back now to watching CSI Las Vegas Season 6.

Things that annoyed me in season 5:
    1. Unlike most other seasons, jack didnt change his awful looking shirt
    2. he carryed that bag over his shoulder around with him EVERY episode (what exactly was in it that made it soooooo important?)
    3. the whole CTU/Homeland take over mistakes just made the show boring
    4. the whole martha logan insane mental depression thing with charles was a bit tiresome and unbelievable

Don't you even DARE disrespect the Jack Bauer "Satchel Of Death" (aka "The Jack Sack"), mister! :D In case you didn't know what it was for, it's basically a CTU agent's best friend, "a stylish, multipurpose manpurse that carries all the instruments for killing and torture that an agent might ever need!" ;):D

It's become such a big hit since season 5 that '24' fans all over the world have started buying them (see here: http://www.amazon.com/Heavyweight-Classic-Messenger-Travel-Unisex/dp/B000H2B5GO and here http://www.galaxyarmynavy.com/item-9148.asp) and has even gotten it's very own website detailing it's adventures with Jack (http://thejacksack.blogspot.com/).

Season 5 was the Best season (But I still think season's one and two are up there).

Pres and Martha Logan where brilliant and returned the White House back to its orginal form while reversing the roles of the President and First Lady (Okay I know Pres Plamer did suffer from a nervous breakdown). Both actors deserved their nominations for best male and female actor in a supporting role.

I don't think the killing of Michell, Tony and Pres Plamer made much difference to season 5 however they are missed from season 6.

Kim only came back for the 100th episode, just for nostalgia IMO.

    Overall a great season.

I REALLY think that they shouldnt have been killed off.....Michelle was what made some of the best earlier classic 24 moments....

Do you remember when he said that palmer was ''not only a great president...but a great friend'' President palmer also said to jack before he left office '' i hope that when this is over we can be private friends''

Id say jack would be friends with anyone if he's had a few lol

rolfmao "private friends'' can only mean one thing to me :D
