    Hi,

im looking for some info on setting up my voip at home.

I have no phone line. I have wireless bband(not adsl). I have skype installed on my laptop very happy with it.

Today I bought a skype phone installed handset driver very good, i can make all calls and recieve skype calls on the new skype phone, excellent.

I have wireless router in the house. Is there any way I can work the skype phone via the router ie have the skype phone on while the pc is off.

    thanks

    Hi,

You will require a WIFI handset (802.11) if you wish to make calls with your PC off. Another option is to get a VOIP phone with an ethernet connection (RJ45) which connects directly into your router the same way a PC does. Then configure it for Skype (if it allows it).

Otherwise, handsets which connect directly into your PC via USB are just soundcards in a handset...nothing fancy really, plus your PC must be switched on. I have a Linksys cordless (NOT 802.11 WIFI) handset which connects via a USB base station much like a normal cordless house phone. Again, PC must be switched on for Skype to run.

I have a belkin skype phone which has the skype software pre loaded onto it. What this means is thet so long as my wireless router is switched on i can you use the cordless handset for skype phone calls. It's really handy, no need to even have a computer!!. You can even take it out with you and use it as a regular phone (if you have skype out) at any wireless hotspot, so long as it doesn't require browser login.
You can find them on ebay, thats where i got mine
