Well finally got a chance to go out with my new 10-20mm today but alas the lighting was terrible as there was plenty of cloud out this morning. Therefore the old trusty 50mm came out again.

    With the 50mm

Very nice all round, can't actually really think of anything really critical to say about them ! This is probably down to a lack of imagination on my part though, I'm sure they'll be picked to bits by other people :-)

One thing though, did you put a soft glow on them or something ? USM at a medium pixel value or similar ? Never been a big fan of that. Bit of a personal preference thing more than anything else though I guess.

-edit- just to add, those two you posted above are definately the best of the bunch IMO. Best of a good bunch though ! -edit-

I treat all (well nearly all) my black and white using Fajitas patented dodge and burn method (I just love the effect myself).

I have attached a reduced version of the bread one without any editing for comparison.

You may try another duplicate layer with some noise, to bring out some details from the complete shadows, glowy details I might add! :D (Evolution of my technique!)

Were you shooting in RAW? If you were, I'd recover the highlights of the woman in the background of the first - It's kinda distracting towards the bread!

The second one, I'd make another file with detail of the market through the bridge and blend it in?

Love the DoF in the first

The first one is really good. However the lady (or the man?) in the white coat in the background - she(/he) disturbs me.
If she(/he) had a grey coat. Or if you had made another snap...

    Next time.

And about the light - I prefer a little cloudy sky. I don't like direct sunlight. It breaks the scene and I have to cope with another composition and contrasts in my pictures. I think that the best weather for the street or documentary photography is cloudy, just few minutes before it's going to start to rain. At least it is the easiest :-)

Was back up in Marley this morning and what a difference a week and some sunshine makes
