I have a load of mp3's that_are_named_-_like_this. Does anyone know a program that will easily rename them in batch, to capitalise the first letter of each word and the under_scores spaces into spaces?
    Thanks

Windows Media Player will do this..

Just click all the songs you want to change then right click and click find album info..

Just make sure to check the box thats says apply this to all songs... or something like that!

That only tags the songs, it doesn't rename them.

If it's consistent, and you want to keep your names, just get rid of the capitalisation and underscore issues, give the likes of Better File Rename a go. This lets you scan through the names of all files within a folder, and replace x with y and so on.

However, the better (though possibly lengthlier option) is to use something that looks up a database of the track based on it's characteristics. MusicBrainz can do this, and it's free. It also has an option to rename the file based on it's ID3 tag information, so you can have everything as "<Track> <Title> - <Artist> (<Album>)" - at least that's the way I like it.

Another vote for Tag&Rename. Helps me keep my collection fascistically in order.

I recommend MediaMonkey. It allows you to batch edit filenames in the simplest manner I have ever seen. It also allows you to auto-tag files from Amazon (in a much more powerful manner than Windows Media Player, which often sets the incorrect information). It also auto-adjusts volumes on all your MP3's, and has a great library. Supports Winamp plugins. I could go on. It just rules.

A vote for the Godfather here as well.

Once you have the settings set to your preferences then it's just a matter of a quick click from then on. Great little piece of software!

Have to say I like MediaMonkey the best too. Simple and powerful. You can use filetree and/or tags or a mix of the two to find and correct. So you can rename a whole directory including sub directories.

Majority of mine were from my old computer when I was ripping my own CD's and had to do it offline as I only had dial up and didn't want it to cost a fortune trying to connect to the CDDB. Also being a relative newbie to computers, I didn't realise you could change the way it named them when ripping in WMP and the like so had underscores EVERYWHERE.

I realise you're being sarcastic but there's a valid reason for not wanting to retag.

A lot of the on-line database where apps like iTunes get their tags are wrong. Its not unusually to see a 3 box set tagged with 3 different artists, genres etc. Most people don't bother fixing them, and when you look at their iPods their tags are a mess. Others like to retag the files, genres etc so they make more sense. No one needs tags like alternative new age funk.

If I were to use the software mentioned above to change/correct the file names, will it have any impact on the files on my music player (ie) will Itunes still hold the link to the file, and not assume that this is a different file?

AFAIK you'll have to reimport them.
