    Hey guys,

I really wanted to try rock climbing. Does anyone know where I can get cheaper gear? I want to try not spend a crazy amount until I know if I like it or not! There dosnt seem to be anywhere to rent it either so if anyone has any ideas let me know....

    cheers

Do not buy gear until you know if you like it or not.
If you are in Dublin go to Portrane if you are DNS or Dalkey if you are a soutsider and have a bit of a climb. Stay low so you do not get hurt. Wear an old pair of tight runners.
If you did not hate that try some indoor climbing in UCD or some other wall. At this stage you need a mate with some clue more then you need gear.
After this get some rock shoes and a chalk bag. Should be well under one hundred euros for these.

    Hey,

Thanks a million. Thats really helpful. I do have a mate who has gear so i wanted to practive with him. All i was looking for was a harness and shoes to practice on the wall in college. i didnt think of starting on actual rocks!
i doubt i wont enjoy it!
    thanks again.

    Oh sorry get you now.
boots and harness are not easy to get second hand. Even if you get them i am wary of trusting harnesses I do not know the entire history of. But that is just paranoia.
For climbing gear Great outdoors is the only place I know in dublin with a good selection, Scout shop is not bad. They are a bit pricey but if you get good advice and stuff that fits it is worth it.
Try bouldering a few times before you fork out money on harness and shoes.

You could always do a course, that's how I got started.

http://mountaintraining.ie/index.php?lnk=courses&type=climbing has 2 day rock climbing courses. And if any trainers/instructors are reading this you do not have permision to advertise on this forum.

Your Gonna pay for gear and thats the bottom line..And as a previous poster said A second hand harness (imo) would be iffy and as he said the history..

Get some in door Climbing and learn how to belay.

When you do get into it, a full Rack(harness and protection/slings/) will cost in the region of €200.. and thats a basic Rack.. and then add another €200 for Ropes..

here is a pic of a basic Rack
