Well what can I say, years I've backed up everything.. run out of space & bought a 160GB HDD off ebay.. Tested it .. Benchmarked it.. Seagate drive. moved my GB of NI Battery library & just about every other sample library, organised , labelled.. then ....... .....
1 chkdisk later it's showing errors all over the feckin place & although most of the stuff is on DVD it's still a piss off.. won't format !
There's a lesson here somewhere , this was supposed to be a productive night with a new VSTi but quickly I'm beginning to crave sleep or a pint!

Ouch. Computers, I'd hate them if I didn't lobe them.

Check that it's your power supply not bombing out because you have too many devices drawing power.... one main culprit are the fans, they really suck the life out of a power supply.

There are loads of other ways to get these pain in the arse devices working.

Well it's a gonner.. It starts a format & gets stuck half way. I ran seatools test on it & it started to play up about 5 gig into filling it with 0's. I'm not sure of seagates warranty service but I'll try it as the disc was new. It was the disc not the PSU though. I've repaired a fair few PC ones so know that they're prone to not giving the power out they should as ambient temp rises in the room.

Haven't lost anything though apart from my Battery drum library & a few hundred meg of samples. Thankfully I discovered I'd backed it up on the server a few weeks back.

So the worst thing was that I wasted some time & I have to find a new SATA drive for my samples. Next time I'll soak test a new drive on one of the other PCs before moving all my stuff to it.
