    would 40mpg sound too optimistic?

That's very optimistic, unless you're into long distance cruising for most of your mileage

im after a diesel auto......but feck all choice, in mainstream makes, vw, jap, etc....

theres loads of the saab 95 diesel autos knocking about, whats the story there?

any suggestions welcome....... i would go for a low mileage 06 car

the s60 D5 combined fuel consumption is 7.5L/100km as per there brochure,,,,, works out at 37mpg i would have thought it would be better than that.,,,,,,,search continues

I had a V70 D5 for a week and it was surprisingly economical, late 30's on average, quite fast too.

Surely that must have been a manual, Colm?

The V70 is the estate version of the S60 so late 30s would be impressive imo from such a heavy car whether it be manual or auto.

Indeed. Just looking up some figures now and there is a big difference between manual and auto. I wouldn't expect much more than 30mpg from the s60 d5 auto in mixed driving

If your going for a 9-5 make sure it has the 1.9 TiD engine. This is the excellent Fiat multijet diesel engine and is light years ahead of the older Isuzu sourced 2.2 litre unit. Also be aware that the depreciation on the 9-5 is wowful and the new Dame Edna facelift model is horrible.

    Other suggestions would be:
    BMW 525d: http://www.usedcars.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=484091

Yes the diesel IS220 is hard to come by and they hold their value very well.

    A high spec one:

2.2 litre D4-D has 180bhp, same engine as in the Avensis except the Avensis has 150bhp. No auto diesel available in the IS220d either though.

i dont think ill find the right diesel auto im after , without spending big money..
i know i said i was after auto....... but cant find one i like....... i saw the vw passat auto €42k ! its a no brainer that the is220 is the one to buy.

so now im looking at the is220D i really like it....its €44k i wonder how much its gona cost to change into that from an avensis luna 06 2.0 d4d new model?

anyone care to hazard a guess?

No it was definately automatic! absolute barge of a car, needed to do a 2 point turn to turn out of my road, something I've never had to do with anything else!
I didn't frive it much around town, but it certainly wasn't heavy on fuel.

Alot would be my guess. Not alot of discount on the IS220d either as they are pretty hard to get new and used.

Would you consider a Honda Accord 2.2 i-CDTi?

id be better to hold on to what i have , than to buy a diesel accord....exec

not a lot different than the avensis size wise.......i have looked at VW's price list for the passat auto diesel, but at €42k its expensive and would be hit hard by depreciation,,,,,,im not a big vw fan......

what bout the new mazda 6? i wonder if they will do diesel auto?
when is the new model due out?

i drove the v70 2.4 D5 manual,,,,,, fast car to go,,,,, didnt like the clutch,
it has a very sharp bite..... solid car.....
